I have just acquired an old 22 cooey[I got it for nostalgic reasons-when I was a kid I would go down to Maple Creek and shoot gophers with a single shot open sighted cooey]However-my eyes aren;t what they used to be,and the rear buckhorn sight just won't focus.I rectified this to some degree by installing a ''true-glo'' front sight on a peepsighted Savage 219 I have-but was wondering if any of the fire sights [front and rear] would fit the old cooey?[It is not grooved,so a scope is out of the question-and unless I could drill and tap it myself ,it isn't economically viable

Hello, I have an old Cooey model 75, I have decided to put the $ into it to get a smith to install the dovetail base from Brownells, get riser blocks from BKL technologies and mount the Weaver 2X7 rimfire scope, as for the iron sights, don't know about that,although Brownell's is selling a rimfire peep sight that will fit on a 3/8 dovetail, may be easier on the eyes, although the front sight would have to be replaced with something higher. You may have to source the 3/8 bases domestically as the 3/8 stock from Brownells requires an IIC, don't know about the iron sights but probably.
I'm wondering about the feasability of cutting grooves in with a dremel tool.I'd clamp the barrel in a vice,mark the barrel with the scope clamps and see if I could cut in the grooves.This is a $25 gun, so I'm not risking a huge loss, nor is it a classic rifle even if I do screw it up.I even wondered if a sight could be epoxied on
why not just drill and tap?
If you're going to attempt a grooved mount with a dremel, why not just get the Weaver side mount scope base and drill and tap the 4 holes on the left of the receiver - I've bought them off the board for about $10 and them seem to work very well. Even if you screw a couple of the holes up I am sure it would work way better than your dremel exercise. Anyone got the weaver mount to help this fellow out? If I had one I'd give it to you. Another option I have used to mount a scope on a Cooey is by using the one piece Weaver mount for the Browning auto-22. It cost me about $14 at a local gun shop and I drilled and tapped the three holes in the barrel just ahead of the receiver and just aft of the rear sight. The base arches back over the action and gives proper eye relief for most scopes and doesn't interfere with loading etc. I prefer this mount over the sidemount Weaver mentioned above.
