Sightron 10x42

I had one on my custom built 6xc. I wish i never sold it. best scope i ever had.

My only thing is I wish it came with .1 mrad turrets

16x is quite a bit of mag depending on what distances you plan on shooting I.e. if you are trying to get set up to shoot at 100m it may take a little fiddling around to find your target, but once you're on, it'll be fine.

I have a 10x42 and really like it for its simplicity. I also have a 6-24x50 and a 8-32x50 (I'm a big Sightron fan!) and I must say that I really enjoy having the magnification because you can see your bullet holes at great distances (.223 at 300-400m and .308 at 400m).

I use the 10x42 on my "tactical" rifle and its great because I shoot steel so can easily see the fresh splash marks on the orange paint at 200m with a .223. As well, the modified mildot reticle is fantastic.

Tikka just to be clear shooting small targets from 100-300M what do you use ? Like to see small targets & hits clearly defined

There a couple of CGN members selling AR500 steel. I use orange Krylon spray paint (buy it at Kent's) and then open fire. The .224" diameter bullet makes about a 1" splash mark on the steel.

Works for me. Scope with magnification allow to see bullets holes in paper 300+ meters out there.

What scope mag for 100-300?

To be honest it depends on glass quality as well as magnification. I have a cheap 100$ 20-60x80 spotting scope and can barely see bullet holes at 100m when on 60x. At the same time I can see them just fine with the 10x42. If I wan to aim very precisely at 100m then I dial up the magnification to 24x or 32x, but there's some debate as to whether more mag allows you to shoot more accurately. At 300m 24x is great because once again, you can really see what you are aiming at but it really isn't necessary. Keep in mind too that different scopes have different applications. I have lots of mag on the rifles I use for precision matches / F/TR. If you're paper slaying or gong bashing it isn't necessary.

There are a lot of people with guns in Alberta (more than New Brunswick). See if you can find someone that is willing to let you fire off a few shots on a 10x power scope (or just dial the power to 10x to get an idea).

Love my fixed 10x42.
clicks are solid, glass is clear.
had a bushnell 10x40 - comparison is laughable.

important to note that fixed power scopes, due to less internal glass/stuff will often be more clear than an comparable adjustable power.
