Just ordered myself a new Sightron S-Tac 3-16x42 from Jerry at Mystic Precision for my coyote rifle.
I read his write-up/review and it sounded like exactly what I wanted to have so I placed the order.
Has anyone else got any experience with one? I used to have an SIII 6-24x50 and was very happy with it so figured the risk was low on this one.

When it shows up I'll try to remember to come back and update with a little review

That's cool. I received a Sightron S-Tac 4-20x50 from Jerry this morning and just mounted it on Rem 5r in 308. First impressions are very good, it was well packaged and feels like a quality scope. Time will tell I guess. I look forward to hearing how you like yours.

Scope showed up this morning.
Thanks to Jerry for his super fast shipping :)

First impressions are that it's nicely finished and the color matches my Burris PEPR mount almost perfectly. I love the little flip up thingy for turning the magnification ring even if I'll probably very rarely use it. Love the reticle and just like my SIII 6-24×50 this one has capped target turrets which is just the way I like things.
I've only looked through it a couple times at short range so not much to say yet on the clarity or brightness but I'll be going out on my range with it tomorrow to zero it and maybe do a little load testing.

It would have been nice to have zero-stop and illumination but I'm sure those things would push it up into the $1000+ zone and I'll gladly trade that stuff off for the reliability and clarity that I'm used to with sightron. I definitely think these are a better value than the Vortex Viper PST series scopes I've owned (1-4, 4-16×50, and 6-24×50)

So far I'm very happy with it and if it's anything like my SIII was I'm sure it will perform flawlessly.

Took it out on my range with it mounted on my NR ACR and it tracked in nicely while getting it zero'd. Image is nice and clear with good definition. Can easily see the holes from the 223 at 100yds on a gloomy day. I'm looking forward to doing some load development and taking it out for yotes.
Still happy with my purchase :)

Just mounted my 3x16 tonight on 26 in swift looks great bore sight and it was right on no adjust ( old school style)

Had it out again on Saturday, this time I had 500+ yards to look around. Very clear and crisp, I'm really happy with it so far. Now I need to do some load development so I can start stretching this rifle out a bit more.

I've looked at the PST II in 4-16x50 and really liked it, you think the Sightron has better glass?

I was looking for dealers in my area (Detroit, MI) to go and look at these models, but the closest dealer to me is a couple hour drive to Ohio...

Just so few scopes to look at locally.

I've never looked through a PST II but I have a PST 4-16×50 and Sightron does have better glass but the Vortex has zero stop and illumination that my 3-16×42 does not.

One thing I noticed today is that the new Sightron S-Tac 3-16 has a lot of eye relief, almost too much, luckily my rifle has a long top rail.

That was a misprint, I looked through my friend's PST 4-16x50 (same as yours). I already bought a Nikon Prostaff 5, so I'm out of the game for right now.

They are a great scope, and Jerry is just such a great wealth of knowledge. I enjoyed my entire buying experience from him, ha.

I agree that the scope almost has too much eye relief. I almost makes the gun front heavy! Maybe I'm just too used to bonking my eye with my ACOG.

I got one on my AR. It's decent glass out to 500m. Lack of zero stop and teeny reticle is my biggest gripes. Hard to make out the tiny dot on a black target.

I had read that the reticle is a bit small for hunting purposes. That would likely be a deal breaker for me.

The dot is around 1/4 min so works really well for precise aiming like PD and predators at longer distances. So it can work superbly for hunting... just depends on the target and how precisely you need to aim.

If the background/target doesn't offer the contrast, you can quickly use the "+" to quarter the target. On really bad mirage days, that is what all of us do when competing.

Another trick with a SFP scope is to change the mag so that the target is bracketed with the hash marks. Same idea as an open sight... can lead to very precise aiming even through conditions are muddy.
