I am looking to upgrade my optics and I am throwing these two scopes around. I can get a really good price on a Mark 4 but I have been hearing very good things about the sightrons as well. I am building a long range rifle and in the near future I have plans on competing in F-class competition shooting. The Mark 4 would be the 8.5-25x50 with the TMR reticle or the Sightron SIII 8-32x56mm with the target dot reticle. Nightforce is not on the list because it's a tad out of my price range. I can get the mark 4 for a significantly lower price so that's why it's on my list.

I would go Sightron over the Mk. 4. Don't get me wrong, I love Leupold and use them, but for F-Class you really want 1/8 MOA clicks and target type reticles. You also want as much magnification as you can. Again, I use and love an 8.5-25X50 VXIII but if you're shopping, I'd go for more power. The Mk4 is more of a tactical scope and they lack the really fine target dot reticles preferred by F-CLass shooters.

FWIW, the Mk4's fetch a pretty penny; you could flip it for a NF :D

leopold super duper lifetime warranty is now limited to only authorized dealers in Canada. I think this will hurt resale.

Sightrons are good and if you have a problem just send them back. No reciept or anything required. They do not care where you bought it or when it is still a lifetime transferable warranty.

btw I just bought the 8-32 and it is 1/4 moa clicks.

For competition use, 10-50X60 Sightron SIII. pick your reticle and go have some fun.

Scope designed with F class shooters in mind.

The 8-32 is likely the most popular in the SIII Line up. Wonderful scope but more geared towards sport shooting - hunting, varminting, LR plinking.

The last few Leupold Mk4's I looked through had really poor glass. This was a few years back.

The Leupold would have Canadian Warranty. Not sure what to get... More opinions.... Do you guys ever see Mark 4's on the firing line? Like obtunded said, the mark 4 is appealing as I could sell it and use the cash towards a nightforce.

After having looked at both NXS Nightforce and Leupold I picked the Leupold Mark 4 LR/T 8.5x25 50 TMR reticle. I compared both side by side and could not tell the difference in glass quality. Just my opinion, but both looked equally well, but cash difference went for the Mark 4. Never looked through a Sightron so cannot compare.

I shoot F-Class as well and practice holding off style. So 1/4 MOA clicks works for me and I hold off for windage. TMR reticle works great for that style too. Leupold always hold its value.

They used to always hold their value. People knew that if they ever had a problem they could send it to korth and have it fixed.

Well you missed the quarter page ad in the Canadian Access to firearms in December stating that warranty work will only be available from scopes purchased from authorzied dealers.

So if you sold me your MK 3 on the exchange that you bought 10 years ago, how do we prove that it came from an authorized dealer. If it can not be proved korth will not honor the leupold lifetime warranty.

I think it safe to say that they used to hold thier value. They were a great scope with a piece of mind warranty. They are still a great scope, but the warranty is not there.

You could feel pretty safe picking one up on the exchange. If it did not track or whatever you were only out the price of shipping to korth.

Now if the scope does not track well you will have to pay to get it fixed. For me the price has to come down as one must factor in the cost of lifetime repairs for the scope at time a purchase.

JBD, if the Leupold warranty acceptance really is going that way then I can no longer see intelligent buyers sticking with the brand. Not when the competitors have equal and better glass at much lower pricing.

Then again I have been wrong before.

if a nightforce screws up dont you have to pay to have it fixed and how long of a warranty do they have??and yes nightforce do have problems as well from time to time..

JBD, the price isn't coming down. More for me to buy then. If you're buying the scopes here in Canada, then what's the problem? It's not like Leupold scopes are a crap shoot and somehow their quality went downhill because of Korth management level. If enough people complain to Leupold I'm sure Korth will get an attitude adjustment.

Without naming names, T___y P_____ns has been using Sightron 8-32 on his FTR tube gun and did very well with it at the ORA Match. He has nightforce 12-42 but has not been using it because of the weight. The Sightrons are about 24 ounces and the NF is about 34 ounces. The Leopold and the Sightron are about the same weight. Believe it or not, its tough to make the 18 pound limit with a FTR competetive rifle.

If you are using the rifle for F class, you will appreciate the 32x for the 1/2 minute V-Bull.
