Sightron mil dot reticle

I'm looking at purchasing a 4.5-14x44 Sii Big Sky to top off my 6mm Remington. The rifles intended use will be for Longer 5-700 yrd targets, gongs and double as my walking varmit rifle. My only choice of reticles in this model is there mil dot and dot. Having seen some pictures posted on other sights I'm leaning towards the mil dot but not being able to look thru any scopes makes the choice difficult. Any input anyone has on either of these 2 reticles would be appreciated.

Pizdets, thank you. I should be able to make that work. What scope is that and what power setting is that on? Have you been happy with your Sightron?
 
sightron kicks ass. the mildot is nice and easy to see, and you'll get a card with your scope that'll tell you what the dimensions are (dot, line, spacing) at each mag setting so you don't really need to worry about where it's "accurate" at.

btw, hurry up with your purchase since the SII Big Sky stuff has a $75 rebate that runs out at the end of the month.

its a big sky 6.5-20x50 on the 6.5 setting. very nice and bright but the turrets require some getting used to.

I do plan on taking advantage of the $75 rebate. You seem to get alot for what you pay for with a Sightron. The weight difference between the 3-9x40 conquest and the 4.5-14x44 is minimal at best and you get the elevation and windage turrets with the Sightron. Perfect for what I'm after. So I'm sold on a Sightron, just making the final decisions on the reticle.

i thought about the plain single dot, but if you ever intend on holdovers / kentucky windage, you'll need the mildots.
 
clicks suck balls on the Sightron and are awesome and repeatable on the Vortex, Vortex is illuminated too and has zero stop. Glas on the 16x Viper is worse than the Sightron but the 24x Viper is supposed to have significantly better glass than the 16x, which is why I am dragging my feet. That and they are both out of stock lmao. Good thing I already sold my 16x:slap:

i'd find it odd that a higher-mag version of a scope has significantly better optics than a lower-mag version (same company / same series / etc). i'll give you that the sightron s2 clicks could be better, but the optics make up for it from what i've seen so far. and the reviews i've read indicate that the sightron does the box test admirably, so the clicks return to zero perfectly.

of course, there's always NF, S&B, and USO if you're really after the creme de la creme extreme.
 
two kids 3 cars and a mortgage, Im not a NF kind of guy lol. But according to opticstalk and sniperhide, both forum reviews state the better glass on the 24x.
 
That is the first I've read about the Sightron clicks not being repeatable. The research I've done has told me that Sightron has better glass than Vortex and its turrets function very well for a scope in its price range. I'll give my opinions after I mount and test it. I think I'll go mil dot. Thanks for the feedback guys. It was good to see the picture of the reticle.
 
just going from memory here, but my SII 6.5-20 has 20MOA-per-turn on the turrets, so with a 1/4-MOA step yes the clicks have to be fairly close together and they won't feel as well-spaced and distinct as a scope that only gives you 10MOA-per-turn adjustment. you can either have well-spaced well-defined clicks and have to spin the damned turret a dozen times to get from point A to point B, or you can have tighter spacing that calloused fingers might not be able to "feel" as well but you can make a wide range of adjustments within just one turn.

unless your turrets are the size of a frisbee.

personally, i'd go towards better optics and better ability to "return to zero" over other features or audible clicks (my fingers can still feel things quite well). i've used illuminated reticules, and right now i wouldn't put any extra value in one - EXCEPT the type that's on the Viper 1-4x32 (MOA / MRAD) scope.
 
For me BP7 I won't no the difference because this will be my first experience of spinning dials for longer range shots. Now I just have to order the scope today, work some loads up and hope the weather warms up to melt the snow so I can find a place to stretch it out a bit. I'm excited about the project and just recieved my 105 a-max's so it's time to get it going.
 
BP I think I just found my happy medium. Nightforce makes benchrest models for around +- $1200 apparently! Same glass as the $2000+, and they have illlum reticules and the best turrets you can buy! Gonna look into that today.

Yea but who stocks them? I think im set on the Nightforce, for $1215 I can't see anyone topping the glass quality..
