Hi,

I'm in the market for a new scope that would go on a 308 bolt action that I'm looking to buy right now. The rifle would be used mainly for target shooting. This build might be use for longer range and maybe some hunting as well. I am considering buying a used scope and found these models on the gray market. I was looking for some insight from this forum about these scopes and their makers. I'm mainly looking for good lenses, nice tracking and ruggedness. I'm also trying to get scope with a warranty that would be transferable, and I know that Nikon I out of the scope business, but decided to include it to get feedback.

Thanks for your time and your help,

I have owned a Steiner GS3 3-15x50… pretty decent quality glass.
I have owned Sightron and Nikon , albeit, lower level models than the two you are considering.

All three could be a decent choice, depending on what specs you’re looking for… reticle type, parallax adjustment, illumination, MOA or MILS, first or second focal plane, etc, etc, etc…

I've owned Sightron and Nikons. Good scopes, I would buy both again for the right price. - dan

I have the Nikon and shoot out to 800 meters regularly with it. Great clarity. As good as my Vortec which is probably comparable to a Sightron.

I'd start with a budget, the features you want, and the type of shooting you'd like to do. "Grey market" generally refers to sales through non-authorized dealers which may affect warranty on a new scope if you discover it's counterfeit.

How far is "longer range" to you? Ballistic turrets? First focal plane? Illumination? Mil vs MOA? Parallax adjustment?

All three brands make or have made good scopes in the past so I wouldn't strike any from your list, Nikon could be a warranty hassle though. There are likely a bunch more options out there to consider as well.
