Sightron S3 6x24x50 vs Vortex Viper PST 6-24

I think you need to substantiate your statement that Vortex optics are made in "sweat shops".
I would hope that you don't believe that everything made in Japan or the Phillipines are made in sweat shops.

Anyway, the PST I have is comparable with the leupold Mark 4s I have, and with the features I prefer, and at a price point that is quite good.

Substantiate what? Flip the scope over, reads "made in the Philippines". Pretty simple. Also, I think you're getting Japan confused with china. The japanese are quite civilized and manufacture the best optics in the world.

I think you have the Japanese confused with the Germans

My S&B is not my favorite scope, period... JP.

Ill buy you whatever Sightron model you want and trade you straight across for the S&B, Ill even cover the shipping ;)

Never had the chance to run a S&B or march but I have a few Sightrons and they are amazing quality glass for money. I have never felt the need to spend more personally.

My S&B ( 5X25X56 PL4F) kind of sit in the middle of nowere, it is made for LEA and army, it is not a hunting scope (heavy) it is short a bit on power for very LR, ok clarity and reticule are top surely the best, but that must be the scope i shifted from rifle to rifle the most, i bought that 5 year ago for the hype, i like have it in my safe, it spell class but really, i shoot a lot more with my Sightron and my Zeiss, it has become a almost full time safe queen... JP.

If you want a good review of quality optics for those new to LR shooting, have a read through Tomochan's review ..........

http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/foru...Optics-Review-for-the-newer-Precision-Shooter

If you do a search, you can find Tomochan's review of a March scope and his comparison against a S&B PM-II................

Keep in mind that when you compare March to the S&B PM-II , you are comparing a purpose built competition target scope with a purpose built Military/LE scope............

Substantiate your claim that the vortex assembly plant in the Phillipines is a sweat shop. Just because it was assembled in the Phillipines doesn't make it true that it came from a sweat shop.
So now the Japanese are civilized?,, and Phillipines aren't.
You are using a pretty broad brush slagging vortex. The vortex razors are made in Japan, not china. And the glass for the PST line is also made in Japan.

Vortex fan boy, the glass in the pst is not sourced from Japan. Sweat shop......ahhhh why else would you manufacture there? Read much? I didn't write that philippines are uncivilized, dummy-up. Yes Einstein, I realize the razor is built in Japan, this discussion doesn't encompass the razor.

My Nikon Monarch is made in the Phillipines.... I love that glass. My Vortex Viper is also a decent piece.

I do use Sightron S3's (6-24x50 & 8-32x56) for my long range rifles. They track very well and the glass quality is good too. I made the switch from Leupold Mk 4 and am very satisfied. I was smashing steel just a few weeks ago at 1050 yards and the Sightrons never let me down.

My Vortex Viper has not let me down and I am satisfied with the optical quality. I have not thoroughly tested it at longer ranges yet but I do believe it will be up to the task.

The only reason you bought the vortex was because of the discount you got while working at wss.

Sigh,, now you resort to name calling. Tsk, tsk. Do carry on with your personal crusade against Vortex.
For others who are reading this thread, the Vortex products made in the Phillipines are made under contract by the Kenko plant in the Mactan Export Processing Zone. This industrial area is fairly well known (except to Derrick), for it's high standard in respect to its employees, hardly a sweat shop, and to keep referring to it as such is really disingenuous.
The Kenko plant also makes, or has made optics for Nikon, Simmons, Burris, Bushnell and others besides Vortex. Japanese owned and managed for the most part.

Right on, see you were up all night doing some research. Now get some sleep.

Yeah, here's some input.....Vortex sucks. Tacticool poser scopes made in the Philippines. Sightron and nightforce are the only low-buck scopes worth buying. A lot of newbies buy vortex because they are enticed by the crappy shim-type turret stop, fancy looking turret knobs, canted reticles, illumination controls..etc. The owners typically have no clue how to properly use the scope. The pst has about a five- hundred round life cycle, which most owners never achieve.

Quick question- how many PST's have you owned and worn out/broken? I assume you have put hundreds, if not thousands of rounds down range using PST's in order to form such strong opinions?

I would not call NightForce a "Low-Buck" scope.................

I have used NightForce, Leupold MK4s, B&L Tactical (The MilSpec early 90's version), and currently use a S&B PM-II.

If I was at buying scope right now, I would look at S&B, NightForce, or Sightron in that order..........I have heard a lot of good things about Sightron and they have a great price point. ;)

I would not touch Falcon, and not so sure on Vortex............If Vortex quality has improved then they might be worth looking at.........

I've owned a pst, it was replaced with two more before being sold nib in the ee. . Mine had canted/ rotating reticle and tube contamination. Their razor is a nice piece of glass though. Don't presently own a sightron, but have in the past and was very impressed.

The NF line definitely isn't cheap. But compared to a march,s & b, or premiere they are at least affordable.
