I have narrowed down my scope hunt to Sightron. I am looking for a scope to stack on top of the weatherby vanguard s2 .223 I am picking up tomorrow. I intend to try some mid distance shooting 300-600 yards and see how I like it.

I have never been into the paper killing game and want to take some baby steps. I imagine I might do some coyote/ground squirrel extermination also. There is very little chance I will ever compete in any competition of any kind.

My question is: Is there a reason to pony up for the extra cost for the variable SII Big Sky and SIII? From what I can tell, I am looking at minimum another 120 dollars for the variable power and it seems like a lot more if I want a first focal plane scope.

It's attractive to have the 150 minutes of adjustment also. I am less than enthused to have a mil-dot scope and MOA turrets. I would really prefer to keep minimize my chances of making dumb correction mistakes.

Thoughts?
