Looking at picking this scope up for my Remington 700 in 308.

My budget for glass on this project is right around $800 which is where this scope lands. The few reviews and posts I saw online were mostly positive with the biggest drawback being no zero stop. I've never had that feature on a scope so I don't think I'll miss something I've never had.

Main use for this gun will be punching paper realistically under 600 yards. May use it for hunting as well but that's yet to be determined.

I've chosen the moa 2 reticle.

Anyone have any hands on experience with this model they'd care to share? I'll be purchasing the scope having never looked through it before so anyone who can speak to glass quality and clarity would be great. Thanks!!

This is one of the best quality scopes for the money, have one on a 300 SAUM Rem trued and custom barrel it has better glass than
my Luepold spotting scope!

If you are shooting at known distances and at paper then you really don't need a FFP scope. MOA vs Mil is a personal choice so you are good there. I have owned three Sightrons from the SIII series and the glass was phenomenal. I doubt you'll be disappointed. The only reason I sold them is that I've switched to Mil/Mil and FFP, something that Sightron doesn't have much of.

The STAC 4-20x50 is my second Sightron scope everybody at the Range is surprised by the clarity of a mid range priced scope. Also I have the STAC on my Sako 85 Varmint .223 which I got through Hirsch Precicison.Good Luck on your choice.

I'm glad to hear the positive reviews. I know it's all personal preference as to whether you like it or not. I'm coming in to this scope purchase "blind" so to speak. I haven't been spoiled with super high quality glass up to this point so if the quality isn't as good as the SIII glass or a higher end Vortex or something like that, it's not the end of the world. I just want a clear scope that tracks well and has a nice reticle that isn't going to put me in the poor house.

Have this exact scope on my .22-250.

Glass is good, I like the reticle, good value for the money for sure. Biggest negative for me are the turrets, both in feel of the clicks (mushy play between clicks) and the microscopic-sized hex screws for setting zero, but this isn't going to affect the way the scope performs.

I didn't want post , but I'll do it anyway.
I've owned the Stac3-16 and veracity 3-16.

I've found both to have mediocre clarity, and mushy turrets on the stac.
My $350 Bushnell HD 4.5-14 is much clearer..

I've owned a 1-7 stac ,and the clarity was superb,as it should be for the price.

I've owned a bushnell LRHS , Night force SHV,Nightforce NXS ,all had excellent glass.
In my opinion the Stac don't even come close. It's way over priced.

Save a few hundred and get the S111, you'll be better off.
Tommochan gave it a good review.

Also the stac has a centre dot, which I didn't like, so keep that in mind as well.

Sorry don't mean to offend anyone, but that was my experience with it.

I just got back from the range ,with 6.5x47. I had no trouble seeing bullit holes at 100 yards, with my Bushnell legend HD4.5-14.

I could barely see my .308 holes with either stac or the veracity.

Maybe it's just my eyes:)

Can't say about the Veracity but the STACs I am using have no problem seeing 6.5 mm holes in the white at 250yds. I can easily see 22cal holes at 100yds and I am using the 3-16 version.

My guess, is the scope was not properly focused. Glad so many have had positive success with the STACs. They really do work well....

If you can afford it, the SIII family are gems and push you into the higher end glass without a higher end price.

But for most, the STAC family will do all that they need at a very fair price.

Jerry I had em focused just fine, maybe it's just me:)
I bought a 1-7 off you and it was a very clear optic.

I think if you could save a bit more and get the S111, you'd be much happier.
Take no chances that way:)

I found the 3-16 a bit hazy,is all.

Maybe it's just me, but what I'm finding is , it's either clear , or it isn't. Not much in between.

A few ppl have suggested saving an extra few hundred for the SIII, which I'm not entirely opposed to, but I wanted to keep this build under 2k. If I go this route I'm going to be just over(about $40) which is right where I Want to be. I'm still very green as far as shooting at any longer distances so I don't need all the bells and whistles that a $1300 scope gives me over a $750 scope. Once I play with this one, I might find some things I like and dislike and can save up for a better upgrade down the line.

NO doubt the SIII is the better optic but some dont have the budget to go over $1k

But for the price of the STACs, not much in the same price range is going to touch it for optics, tracking, features and performance when shooting. Some more expensive scopes would have a hard time keeping up :)

The great reviews on tracking are what's really selling me on this line. They track true time and time again from what I've read online.

The 4-20 S-TAC is a great scope we tested it on big magnums even the 338 lapua and they tracked and repeat perfectly are very clear and for the money it is certainly great value , Hirsch Precision has lots in stock I'm getting another one for my 300 win mag

You will never regret having a good scope! Rifles will come and go but you will likely keep the scopes longer. Rifles need specific caliber buleeys, dies, brass, etc, etc, a scope can hop from rifle to rifle and you just need to re-zero it.

Well I have it on order. Should be here in a couple weeks. I'll do a ####ty review of it after I've had a chance to put it to the test if anyone is curious to see how it works. Not many videos on YouTube so I'll maybe upload one there.

I have the 4x20 STAC in with the MOA 2 reticle on a Savage 10/MDT LSS bench rest setup in .223 I can easily see holes at 200 yards on paper and i can easily see bullet impact marks on a 5 inch plate at 550 yards. You will like it. It is very clear and is built tough. Just make sure you mount it proper with a good set of rings.

I personally find it frustrating how little information is online about these optics. Sightron's Youtube is a joke. There aren't any digiscoping videos or pictures (Other than Optics Trade EU) which has a grainy video.

Agreed!! There are a few videos of the reticles being zoomed in and out but that's about as far as they go. I'll try and do up a vid when I get it with some testing on tracking etc.

I've got the STAC 2.5-17-56 illum. It's one hell of a great scope. More pricy, but I think it has the same glass as the other STAC's, not 100% sure. But it tracks perfect, great glass and it's a tough unit.
