Hey guys,

I'm building a precision rifle and have been unable to decide between 3 scopes. I'm hoping to get some opinions for each of the 3; what would you choose, why, how would you rank the 3,etc. Thanks in advance!

-I'll be mounting the scope on a remington 700 chambered in 300 win mag.
-Will be used to hit targets out to 1000+ yards.
-Assume cost for all 3 is identical for the purposes of this comparison.
-I'm a fan of magnification and think more is better to a point (not 50x). How much more beneficial would a 22x be compared to a 14x? Are you still comfortable getting the job done at 1000 yards with a 14x compared to a 24x?

Scope 1
Leupold Mk 4 LR/T 4.5-14x50 with TMR

Scope 2
Sightron SIII LR 6-24x50 with Mil Dot

Scope 3 add $250 compared to previous 2
Leupold Mk 4 LR/T 8.5-25x50 with TMR

Thanks in advance!

I'm running the Mk 4 8.5-25 with a mil dot on my 338 lapua and am very happy with it. It is very clear and tracks flawlessly. I just got a chance to stretch the gun out a couple weekends ago and I couldn't ask for much more from the scope. At 1020 m on 25x the picture through the reticle was still sharp and I could easily spot hits on my plate. I've read nothing but good about sightron but when I was looking for scopes I wasn't impressed with the one I looked through. Can't say I've ever shot with one though.

When talking about scopes, more magnification is not necessarily better. There are other factors that trump magnification, such as the quality and coatings on the glass. Greater clarity will help you more than greater magnification. Also, what configuration is your Remington 700 in? Has it been tuned and a match barrel installed? If not, what kind of groups are you expecting at 1000 yards.

Tfly you have choosen some good scopes for your new build and seems are all in the
$1200 + range after taxes and shipping charges. I don,t know about the new Mark 4 by Leupold but some of the older Leupolds had lag in there adjustments and a lot of F class guys moved to other scopes.I would go with more power like 8x to 32x,or 12x to 42x. and you have to consider Nightforce Benchtrest model for a extra $200 or $300.
Sightrons are okay but there not a Nightforce in my opinion have used both.
