I was considering getting a Vortex Viper PST 1-4x24 but after looking around a bit more I found that sightron is now building a similar unit but 1-7x24. I am planning this for an RFB and I think the small amount of extra magnification may be benificial but I was hoping for some more input. The sightron model # is SIII1-7x24IR4A.

Would love to hear some reviews of this scope. I had a look at it on the Sightron website and the reticle looks interesting.

Does anyone know the size of the dot? Is it illuminated?

why is true 1x so important?

The reason for me is so that when your shooting with both eyes open it it much faster and easier for your eyes to transition and keep your objective clear, when the object your looking at without both eyes is the same size. Even a slight change in magnification can make your target seem blury or take a bit longer to focus your eye(s). I have a stigmatism and it is even a bit more difficult if there is a variation from one eye to the other, hence why I want a true 1x if possible.

Many 1x optics all have some amount of magnification to them. This is not a bad thing but it is just something to be aware of that your eye in the scope is seeing a larger image than the other.

This optic has huge potential for SR competition. Few manufacturer's are putting resettable turrets on optics that serve a "dual-use" function. 1X is perfect for CQB, while being able to dial it up to 7X, and use the turrets for your distances is excellent, all while maintaining a low profile optic on your gun.

Now, if only they'd offer a few different reticle options....

Unfortunatly my pay is all messed up right now and I am hoping to have funds by the end of the month to buy either unit. Having not used either unit I wouldn't be able to do a comparable review but I will try to make a very honest review of what ever unit I end up purchasing.

Just got ahold of one of these and it is a very nice product. For short to med range, I think this scope offers features that combine the benefits of 2 scope.

The 1X does work although there is a bit of image distortion if you move the scope. Unfortunately, that is pretty typical with variables scopes and I have yet to find one that didn't have some of this at 1 or 1.5X. Never looked at a S&B short dot but that is another world for costs.

At 1X, I can see my shoes in focus. So yes, you can engage an object 4' from the front of your scope. The dot works very nicely in low light (red and green dot). A very cool feature and maybe just luck, the dot gets dimmer as the ambient gets brighter and the black reticle gets more bold.

So you can see in no light (dot) and you can see in bright light (black reticle) and you do not need to adjust any light settings. You can swing the scope in and out of light and it works all by itself.

Any dot scope needs to be adjusted and if on high when you go into the dark, the dot can be blinding or with big halo, rendered useless.

Opposite if set for low light, will be too dim when you go outside.

For CQB where you transistion through light and dark ie walking through a lit house at night, the Sightron would be amazing. NO adj, just go...

When you dial up to 7X, no problem seeing clearly and engaging a coyote at 600yds. The 2nd focal plane reticle shrinks so it doesn't obscure smaller targets at longer distances. Optics are very good.

I think this is the best DMR type scope for how it works and how good the glass is. I have not shot it but see no issues with tracking. 1cm per click so well suited to the MRAD craze.

My pricing is $920.

I hoped to do a quick review but the scope I have is sold so need to get a couple more. I want to put this on my Norc M4 and think is will fast become THE scope for this platform especially if you need to take longer shots.

Would work great for those hunting in thick cover broken with open fields.

If you are interested in this scope let me know and I will add one for you to my order. Hopefully,. they haven't all sold out.

I was pleasantly surprised at how nicely this reticle works. Yes, it doesn't have all that BDC stuff which rarely works anyways.

Very quick to pick up but uncluttered in the center so you can do precision shooting. Many tactical scopes are very heavy and obscure targets at distance.

I can see why the Europeans like this reticle style for how they hunt.

Simple straight forward design with nothing to hang up on stuff.

I lied, you can see an object a bit over 2ft away. Pictured was taken at my desk aiming at my computer screen so I am pretty darn close. If you need to aim from this distance, the zombie got you!!!!

The reticle IS in focus but my wobbly hand and camera made it fuzzy.

You can make out the edge distortion I mentioned. Not a deal breaker and better then other similar scopes.

I like it.
