Looking at long range scopes for some bench shooting. The big names are out of reach money wise so looking at scopes around 1k. I see lots of Vortex, Bushnell etc.. but am looking at Sightron SIII 's.

I just want decent optics and a good sturdy scope that won't eff up. No need for lights, and door dads. Dependable, predictable adjustments and decent clarity at high magnification. Is Sightron a good choice ?

Any and all oppinions and advice appreciated.

I picked up a used Sightron SIII 6-24x50 and it is a fantastic scope. Great glass - sharp and bright, turrets dial really nice. It is on my long range 308 bench gun. It is the best scope I have and granted I don't have any Nightforce or S&B to compare it to but it doesn't cost what those do either. It works great for me and my needs. I have shot it out to 800m. You can find these on the EE for under a $1000.

Find a good used SIII and you will be very happy with the results.

the STAC 4-20 is another solid scope for well under your $1k target. Glass is step behind the SIII's but still very good vs its peers in its price range.

Another brand offering very nice glass for the money is Athlon.

PM or email if I can help

Jerry

My oldest SIII 8-32x56 is going on 9 years old. Possibly 10... Jerry would know I am sure. Has seen duty on a number of rifles, mounted and remounted a dozen times (from selling the gun out underneath it) taken it hunting, varminting, everything from a 7mm rem mag to a .22lr Not one hiccup. both the cosmetics, mechanicals and glass have been stone axe reliable.

I also have a 4 or 5 year old SIII 6-24x50 that is amazing in FFP.

Then I have the 2 STAC 1-7 scopes on my AR15 and Vector 10mm. both pieces are 4 years old, and doing very well.

In short, Love the product, no eyestrain, rock solid. What I don't like is the new pricing that keeps going up, but what can you do. EE is your friend.

Highly recommended, and while I do not use my scopes as a hammer, they hold up to rough use with aplomb.

Warranty? Pretty Fantastic. However, I can't tell you much about it, as none of my scopes have needed to go in for any reason. Which is very good for me. I hate sending stuff out on an RMA.

EDIT: I recently found a 10-50x60 Sightron... lol, Jerry had one on his FT/R Rifle. god only knows what the scope went through or the round count. But when he indicated he might part with it, I did not hesitate. Yes, they are that good.

I’m letting a new one go simply cuz I want a lower magnification range. The turrets are fantastic on these s3’s! I’ve had two nightforce nxs scopes and I gotta say sightron did very well on the turrets for the price range these are in. Feel like solid scopes!

I have 3 S111s from Jerry , 6 x 24s and have had them for several years . No issues . I've upgraded them with tactical turrets and zero stops . One is on a .223 , one on a .308 and one on a .338LM . Sightron over Vortex any day as i like my scopes on my rifles and not in the mail .

I've had a few Sightron SIII 8-32x56 . I also had a 6-24x50 but didn't like it as well. I found the eye box to be really touchy on it . I never had an issue with any of them. I only sold them to get top tier stuff like Kahles, S&B and Tangent Theta. A used Sightron SIII will run you about $1000 and frankly for that price you just can't beat them.

I have used almost every Sightron scope over the years and every one has been great. My personal fav is the 8-32 SIII, but the 10-50 is also excellent for the price. Often see used ones in the EE too. Jerry is great to work with on these. For their price, I feel they are the best deal out there in their range.
The one downside to them, for me, which may not be an issue for you at all, is that all the earlier versions didn’t have a true Zero Stop, but the new ones now have that feature.

I agree!

I purchased a NIB SIII 6-24x50 here ~4yr ago. Solid, reliable, no 'issues'.
Omissions I might've liked: A luminated reticle; an adjustable 'zero stop'.

I had it mounted on my Savage 10 precision(.308) and shot 1MOA @300yd.

At that range the resolution was clear enough that I could see my holes.

Last year I put it on a new Ruger "RPR"(6.5CM) and was shooting 'shamrocks'
and 'one holers' @200
(the longest distance at our local).

When our Winter Monsoon season lets up, I plan to travel 'up-island' to where
we can really stretch our legs.

("Yes, I would recommend this scope to a friend!")
