hey guys,

i just signed up for the TDSA advanced pistol I course and im wondering what i need to purchase and bring for the course. so far my list is as follows:

pistol - cz shadow 2
ammo - i will be reloading my own
holster - blade tech
mag pouches - i am thinking about the blade tech signature series but open to suggestions
belt - i dont have one yet. can i use a 5.11 belt (possibly their sierra bravo duty belt) or should i buy a DAA competition belt?
mag base pads - which ones and where to buy?

i will be bringing all my other range gear as usual.

did i forget anything?

thanks in advance.

personal opinion after taking 6 high round count courses and seeing whats going on with other students.....

BRING FACTORY AMMUNITION TO THE COURSE..... the course is not about testing the gun or ammo, its about training your mind, and body. take away all the possible distractions that may or may not happen.

just my honest opinion from experience

1000 rounds of factory ammo.
Plenty of mags.
Mag loader.......a must.
Rain gear.
Good foot wear.
A sturdy 5.11 belt will suffice or any battle belt.
Sun block.
Hat.
Back up pistol ---- not a must but just in case, however if you do not have another the instructor will loan one.
Your BladeTech is good to go.
Positive attitude and willing to listen.
Be rested as it's a long and intense day.

Would you guys consider the FOC low recoil ammo to be factory ammo? The reason I ask is because I have an 11lb recoil spring in both my SP01 Shadow (my backup) and Shadow2

I took the course a while ago when it was a two day course. It was excellent and I saw a vast improvement. The requirements have changed mainly due to it being half as long, but bring lots of ammo. I went through 1800 rounds. I ran out. Other guys shot even more.

Bring a decent pair of gloves. I got a blister on my trigger finger from the "Glock Safety" blade from shooting so much.

Other than a willingness to learn, and a reliable gun, the most important thing to bring is a mag loader. Trust me on that one.

You don't need base pads.
But it depends what your budget is and personal preference really. I ended up using henning tanfoglio base pads from a forum sponcer (freedom ventures I think)

How many mags do you have?

i have 8 mags but would only be purchasing 5 base pads. however, if the factory base pads will endure the impact of dropping to the ground then i wont buy base pads and save my money.

The ground is lose gravel which renders them unfashionable. Not required.

^^^ this.
they'll teach you a couple of different techniques for switching out mags anyway, so I'd maybe add a mag-bag or any other kind of pouch for your spent mags?? I just stuffed them in my pocket
mine hit the gravel maybe 10 times, didn't even scratch 'em

I only went thru maybe 600 rounds, but it was a larger than normal class size
I agree with the spare gun too, it didn't happen to anyone there but I have heard of it before (check their mini-forum here, it's been brought up) and it'd be a real pisser if your main pooched after 100 rounds and ya spent the rest of the day sitting and watching ;)

oh...and if you're who I think you are and need a spare in a cinch I'm just down the street ;)
