does the sigsauer p226 classic 22 have a last round hold open or is it just the p226 converted down to 22lr that does not hold open?? i really want to buy one but our local range reguires a last round hold open on every pistol.there is a piece available for 23.00 american that i believe fits in the magazine that is suppose to work, but i dont think it will with the magazine out. i want to buy the p226 classic 22 first then buy the centre fire kit up to 40cal.

Your range requires that the slide be locked open when presented for inspection by the R.O. and while unattended on the table. It does not require a last-round-hold-open.
The magazine follower of the .22LR P226 does not activate the slide stop/lock. You, the shooter, raise the slide stop/lock with a phalange of your strong hand to manually activate it and thus to lock the slide back.
Your range officer will be proud to inspect your .22LR P226.

thanks that is right but im still trying to find out if the p226 classic 22 has the last round hold open, this is a very expensive gun that i believe to be worth the money however even a much cheaper smith wesson 22a has that option, my supplier doesnt know either. i know a p226 center fire converted down to rimfire will not hold open. im itching to order this gun but i need an answer to make up my mind..
LIke I said, the magazine follower of the .22LR P226 does not activate the slide stop/lock. Unlike that piece-of-s**t 22A, which doesn't even deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence, in order to function properly the .22LR P226 has to have an aluminum alloy slide.
It's not a big deal...you don't want to train to shoot to slide lock anyway, you do want to train to have an awareness of the number of shots fired and shots remaining, and you do want to train to reload by grasping the slide and pulling it back (rather than employment of the slide stop/lock).
If you like the P226, buy the P226 in .22LR and don't look back.

well i do like everything ive read . ive only seen one p226 in .40 cal and loved the feel.i like the fact its based on an actual gun and not down sized like the mosqito. i think ill buy it then buy the .40 cal barrel later.there are way to many choices out there for a.22 cal and hard to decifer all the good and bad you read. my choices are between the p226 the sig mosqito, ruger mark2 or 3. walthers sp22, and a browning buckmark. whats your idea.
I own a p226 classic 22lr (which is the same as any sig with a 22lr conversion kit) and the slide doesnt lock back on the last round. There have been many reports that dry firing doesn't actually hurts the breech face but I still got the magazine follower upgrade from jeffsig (sigforum). It doesn't actually lock the slide back; the slide stops on the mag follower so you have to manually pull the slide back on the slide stop and then drop the mag.
I owned a mosquito before, and frankly, it feels and is sized like a toy. The 226 classic is a lot more accurate and is much more forgiving on ammunition used imo. Beside the slide not locking back, I enjoyed the 226 more than my bud's buckmark or ruger mark3; especially when it comes to disasembling and cleaning.
Try to handle then and feel them; you'll see the difference.

I own the P220 Classic. I bought follower upgrade from jeffsig too. I asked him a question after a he shipped follower to me and he never replied. oh well...
Anyway... it doesn't lock well with cheap thunderbolts. Works less than 50% of the time. I tried more $$$ brands and it locks fine. I must have dried fired the thing 50x by accident. Yeah, I really suck at keeping track of last round fired especially thinking that the follower upgrade will work. I haven't noticed any damage to the breech face at all. Hard to see the pin, but it seems to look fine too.
Buying the classic and adding center fire barrel is almost like getting 22lr kit for free. Do it the other way around (buy regular P226) and it'll cost you ~400 more.
I wish I bought a P226 classic instead of regular. Now I have regular P226 and P220 classic with no barrel upgrade yet.

I have the P226 Classic 22 and I got the 9mm X-Change kit. I ordered 2 new followers from Jeff @ sigforum as well. They work fine, I haven't had any issues with them. I shot Mini-mags to break the gun in and been using Winchester bulk from Walmart ever since.
It only catches the slide about half-way back,so mine always "locks" back on last round. Not sure why it wouldn't using other cheap ammo.

I love my Sig P226 .22LR Classic and then I bought the X Change 9mm top end kit from Mark at Questar. Great stuff all around! Get lots and lots of mileage from the .22 setup and I ain't looking back! I train myself and other newbs with the .22LR setup and then compete with the 9mm version. With a kid at University, I have to remain on a tight budget!
