Hey
Quick question. I know we can get fake cans for ar15s and the like. How about for pistols? I spose I would have to buy a threaded barrel too right? Are there any Canadian companies that sell fake silencers?

I know it's pretty much a waste of money, but to each their own eh?

With all the #####ing about noise around gun ranges I think it should be mandatory that we use silencers on the range and make them restricted just like the weapons we can only shoot on the range. That is probably one thing we could get the public behind us on, noise reduction....doesn't scare the birds or interrupt their meditation moments.

I agree: with all of the licensing, regs, and transport requirements, why not make silencers restricted ownership as they all have serial numbers? Other countries don't think silencers are such sinister items.

Maybe even slap on an extra licensing fee at RPAL renewal?

Easiest way to eliminate gun ranges and ownership is to have urban sprawl complain about noise pollution.

Why do people insist on calling them "silencers". They are sound suppressors and they don't make a firearm silent. It would be nice if we had the option to use a sound suppressor. They are legal in the UK and New Zealand. Why not here in Canada?

I've been trying to find some info for ya but to no avail. Seems like it will be an expensive venture for ya though, as you will have to buy a new barrel.

A SS would be badass though, I've been watchin utube vids on them, there pretty cool. The movies have wrecked it for us though, you could sneak up on a lib and off them all covertly, dontcha know...

The problem with a fake can on an autoloading pistol is that very few will function without a Nielsen device (muzzle booster). Basically what you end up with is a magazine-fed straight-pull action, and the frame/slide battering is intensified manifold.

If you DO add a Nielsen device such that the thing cycles, then it becomes an actual suppressor since it marginally reduces the report of the firearm. This would be subject to interpretation by local LEO's or CFC, and I don't have faith that they'd rule in your favor.

The other option is to make such a lightweight fake can that it will still allow the action to cycle - and this would be done by hollowing out the aluminum body... well, then you've got a single-chamber reflex suppressor which is even MORE of a no-no.

Hence why you don't see many for pistols floating around. On a fixed-barrel rifle it's a non-issue, and for a direct blowback pistol it shouldn't be, but for linked or linkless Browning-style pistols (1911, HK, Glock, S&W M&P, CZ, etc.) it's a big issue because of the required barrel tilt to disengage the action from battery.
