What are some of the options that members have used to quiet down the AR buffer spring so it doesn't sound like I'm shooting a pogo-stick? I just recently heard about captive buffer springs, flat wound springs, triple coil springs and spacers to use carbine length springs in the rifle length tube. What works, and to what extent? Mine is the rifle length.

I'm being a bit of a cheap-skate I guess, and sort of hope to avoid the most expensive options. Function at the moment is perfect on my recent EE purchase of a Windham Weaponry, this is just about the sound.

It really doesn't matter if it is regular Dino, moly. or lithium, but a grease of some sort.
Oil will just seep out and run all over the rifle, especially in storage.
I use cheap-as-dirt axle grease.
 
I put some "rem oil" on my spring the first time that I built the lower. (applied on to my fingers and just rubbed the spring a little)

After approx 1000 rounds, I have yet to notice any spring "twang" or pogo sounds.

Maybe just buy a new spring? and lube/grease it a little?
 
Dogleg welcome to the AR world...I smiled when I read your post as I was in the same boat getting into AR's when I was...Lets say...Set in my ways...I had a hell of a time getting over the clack and shredding sounds, all the sharp edges and wiggles of a perfectly good AR being cycled...Save your self a bunch of messing around and just grease the buffer spring and tube up and let fly...I think you will find like I have that the more you shoot these marvels the more you will come to appreciate their character traits...And then still spend a sh!t load of time and money smoothing and tightening them up.

If you really miss the buttery feel and tightness of your finer bolt actions and want something similar in an AR you are going to have to apply a little more grease and get your self a Noveske, Les Baer or LMT...They are noticeable more civilized for the Riflemen who have been around a while and know what they like.
 
A flat wire spring will reduce spring noise, as well as having a number of other benefits. My AR is so loud I can’t pick out the regular round wire or flat wire spring sound over the explosion next to my face lol
