Silicone Gun socks washed accidentally

Silicone itself isn't a very good rust preventative. But it sure does sound good when marketing a product.

What you really need is a VCI oil (vapour/volitile corrosion inhibitor) which releases corrosion protecting vapours. Next best thing would be to spray the inside of the socks with a good corrosion inhibiting gun oil.

VCI oils work best when sealed in plastic or any air tight container so the vapours can't escape, but still provide about 6 months protection when lightly sealed.

Sounds like you have the type of wife I do, if it's left out laying around it gets washed. I wouldn't be to concerned about as they didn't stop much rust from happening anyways, like mentioned spray them with a can of silicone from Canadian Tire and get on with your day by washing her bra's and good panties in with your dirty oily coveralls and blue jeans. Then put them in the dryer on hot for 60 min.

Be prepared to defend yourself and be doing your own laundry until the day you die though, as she will be madder than a skinned cat dipped in turpentine.
