silly M314 noob problem.

took the rifle out for the first time today. loaded it and shot the first 5 rounds no problem. super fun. then when i put the second magazine in and pulled the oprod handle to chamber the next round, the trigger just clicked and it never fired the round. there was no indent in the primer so the firing pin isnt striking. i eject that round and load a new one and still wont fire.

ive only been able to get it to shoot again once. ive tried loading it with the chamber open, with the chamber closed, i just cant figure it out. what am i missing?

i dont think so. i have two magazines and i couldnt get either of them to fire.

Hungry here: Magazines are pretty hard to fire....

after i inserted the magazine, i pulled the oprod back to pull a round from the mag, then let the handle go forward to chamber the round. when i pulled the trigger all i would hear is a "click" but no "boom".

Hungry here: But did you see that the bolt did in fact load a cartridge into the chamber ?

You can tell the bolt if fully locked by examining the right hand bolt lug. As you point the rifle downrange, look along the bolt raceway. You will see the cutout where the right hand bolt lug (with the roller) is all the way in it's lowest position.

Can you see this ?

Now you describe that the magazine locks into place. You mentioned that you pulled back on the op rod. Did you see the top cartridge stripped from the magazine lips and then chambered ?

Your descriptions are leaving me even more confused. That confusion is not productive during this trouble shooting process. Please give us more details to work with.

You really should clean these rifles before you shoot them. The Chinese aren't real big on clean up after manufacturing. I found a few little extras in my first M305.

And as far as the above couple of answers, when you pull the op. rod back after trying to fire it, does a cartridge come out? If it is loading the cartridges but not striking the primer, I would look at the firing pin.

Someone have a link for disassembly?
 
actually guys i solved the problem. i was damn sure it was due to user error (aka: me) and not the rifle. turns out i was just being to gentle and inexperienced with the op rod. when i pulled it back to load a round, instead of letting the spring do the work and slam the oprod back forward i was holding onto it and not letting it do it on its own.

i told you it was a noob thing, its all straight now.

all i need is more ammo :D

Now here's yer next NOOB mistake. Didja get TWO of the M14's like I've been telling everyone on this forum ?

You will soon discover that buying ONE was a mistake. You must buy TWO of them. The next great Norinco deal is the 9mm 1911 pistol they call the NP29.... Just like the M14, it's the most fun you can have with yer clothes on.

i know i know, ive read so many times about buying two but alas im a university student and i can only buy one right now. and id love to get a norinco 1911 clone but i only have my nonrestricted. i just got my PAL last year and im not really able to drop another couple hundred to take the restricted tests and do more paper work over again for the PAL. im happy with the m14. next up is probably another .22 and possibly a precision .223 if i sell my motorcycle sometime soon.

I should have known better. :redface: I'm a firm advocate of the Norinco-Plinko approach because my undergrad days were so memorable (read: poor) that I never want to return to being an undergrad. :mad:

Now many people on this board are Norinco-plinko snobs for whatever reason, but frankly, I cannot afford to be a snob since my son's 1st year tuition and residence bill at Queer's University in Kingston is $ 18,000. :eek: He's been accepted to Waterloo, U Western Ont, Queer's, and McGill. I keep leaning on him to become a tool and die maker at Georgian College in Barrie, but I suck ! :cool:

Many of you who know me, can guess why I need a tool and die maker in the family, yuk, yuk, yuk.

So that's why I'm such a Norinco NP29 and M14 lover. That's my price point and I must make peace with my position in life. :rolleyes:

Keep up your studies and continue with the Norinco addiction.
