Silver bolt vs black bolt sks?

BTW, one of my re-numbered 51-55-50-somthing had all the "protective coating on the bayonet, but Woodbeef can testify that it was not, in fact, an original. I sold it on the EE as a refurb just like every other SKS out there to date.

There is a edit button down beside the quote buttons (bottom right of your post's) allows you to edit your post. Instead of 4 posts, just edit the one 3 posts above with the extra info you wish to add. (for future reference)

Who's right and Who's wrong? Are you both Right, or Both Wrong? I have to agree, there has to be documentation for eveything... but Jesus Christ, these are a few hundred $$$$ rifles with no real doc's. I guess all you can do is rely on the published information out there.

Even new C8 carbines aren't delivered to the CF with documents for each rifle. They get a military certificate of conformity for the batch. As soon as they enter the Cdn Forces Supply System (CFSS) that paperwork disappears. The guns remain unissued for YEARS until someone draws them from stores.

Why you think Russia is any different is beyond me?

On the practical side, I've shot a black bolt and it shot OK. Wasn't mine and it wasn't as nice looking, but everything fit and the guy who picked it up was for the back of his truck. From the ones I've handled in the store, they need to be inspected well, but that goes for any firearm.

I've been tempted to pick up a black bolt to stash at the cabin, but haven't done so yet. I think they are OK for a shooter if you can go through them, but for a bit more cash, you can get something nicer looking or collectible.

I'm sure Sergey will speak up as he is Russian and seen the original crates and wouldn't be surprised he's been to Tula/Izhevsk plants.
IMO, you'd be hard pressed to get any documents from them, but I'm positive that they have ledgers and stacks of them about everyone made just for records.
They are known to keep a tight lid on military matters and the internet for that matter.
Of course this is not an expert opinion.

Yup you had a mutt there. It was basically an early 1950 with a 1955 top cover.

I had the nicest black bolt refurbed I've seen. It came from the first IZH-Impex shipment. Had a gold bayonet, stock had all the cartouches too,but was renumbered. Just goes to prove never say never with SKSs
