SilverDale Gun Range

The RSO's are great!! It helps to know what they like in their coffee (or for Monty, steeped tea). This gets you lots of love on a cold winter's day. Don't be dangerous and you won't have any problems with RSO's or me for that matter.

Weekends in summer are jammed. Winter weekends are pretty good and weekdays are great.

and summer weekdays a slice of heaven my job allows me to have the odd weekday off and its pretty amazing when you have the whole place pretty much to your self

I'll likely be cancelling my membership if there is no changes this year.

Way too many people, and day passers, or the "new shooter" program seem to be treated better and catered to over existing members.

I watched the place go to hell in the last year, and expect to see some changes for the better this year, or I am gone.

You won't notice if you are just joining, so don't worry about my opinion.

Just another frustrated member being pushed out by the influx of new members....

Yep. I'm about at my breaking point. Just gonna wait & see how all that day-pass crap is handled this year, especially in the Fall. If September & October are ANYTHING like this past year, I'm done.

ohhh muffin... just get up a bit earlier in the morning and beat the rush...works for me...and don't forget the coffee & tea!!

Been going there for years. Follow all of the safety rules and you will have no issues. Lots of guys willing to help and share knowledge.

They do run business and day passes (i assume) make them nice chank of change also those grupon deals.

Great thanks for the replies. Really thinking about becoming a member there even if i have to drive from Mississauga.

I think lots of us from the west end head there. Best to car pool and talk shop on the way...

We like to try to spend some money in town.. Even if its just a few bucks for coffee and muffins. Want to support community as well....

This past summer there were a couple occasions where I couldn't get on the 200yrd range to do some load testing. It was packed full of day-pass users. If they do restrict day-pass users to the 100m range and packaged shooters to that new dedicated range, that would be a nice bonus to members.

Overall, I do like Silverdale a lot for what they offer and also the RSOs and staff. Met a few CGNers and made some new range buddies.

Well I got all upset and sent Frank(head RO) a message, and he has assured me the issues I raised will be discussed.

He also tells me there is plans for restricting daypassers, and the new shooters program that are in the works.

I am going to stay hopeful, but the proof is always in the pudding as they say.

I'm letting my Silverdale membership expire. I've been a member there for almost 15 years.

It's not because of any issues with the RO's, or Doug/Joan, etc.

It's just simply too busy on the weekends when the weather is good. Yes, I know they've built 3 more action ranges, with 1 supposedly to be used for new shooters/guests only.

But last I heard, they are approaching 4,000 members now. That's great for them, really. But bad for members who can only shoot on the weekends.

I just joined EESA a few days ago. Yeah, it's an extra 30 minute drive (for me), but they have a huge 2-story clubhouse, kitchen, REAL bathrooms, indoor archery (if that's your thing), a 300 meter range, and an INDOOR range on site. The club is run by an elected board, any member can run (after they've been a member on good standing for 12 months). Members also vote on most (all?) changes, and make decisions on how the club's money is spent. No wait list at EESA either, you just need to check their website when the next new member orientation is.

Don't get me wrong, I love Silverdale. As I said, I've been a member there for almost 15 years. I just think they've expanded their membership base way too quickly, and while they've built 3 new action ranges, it's just not enough to handle the huge number of members they have. :(
