I'm wanting something similar to the Kel Tec SU16. Here's the requirements:
1) NR Classification
2) Accepts AR Mags

Here's the bonuses
1) Classic rifle look
2) Under $1000.

Anything out there, or am I just blowing smoke here?

Whats wrong with the Kel-Tec, besides the cheap plastic feel? It sounds like the only rifle in your budget that meets your criteria other than a CSA/CZ858 with magwell adaptor. Which is a far better built rifle and has a very classic look. Other than that you'll need to up your budget.

Pretty sure everyone in Canada wants what you are asking for.

CZ 858, or VZ 58 in 7.62 or .556 with an AR mag adapter?

The others mentioned like the MVP, and the Rem 7615 are good suggestions.

I have seen the 7615's done up with AR stocks, and optics and they do look pretty good. I have considered grabbing one myself. ;)

As for stock look, like a Monte Carlo style stock. I'm willing to bend a bit on the style of the stock- I just want it to look modern, but without rails in all directions- just enough up top for a decent scope and below for a bipod.

Availability ? AFAIK, Kel-Tec firearms have been on backorder for a monstrous time, and if you want it, you better be patient. Said otherwise, which store currently has in stock:

- SU-16
- Sub-2000
- RFB
- KSG

?

The closest we could have, currently similar to those firearm are the Tavor, UTS-15, JR carbine and the mythical Type-97.

Just get an AR-15
There is no point if I cannot go plinking in the wood or hunt with it. I really do not see the point (and this is a personal point-of-view) to go shooting between concrete walls, or being restricted in range. Yes, you would say the the Government won; let's face it, it did.

I've been looking for the same thing, and am holding out for the possibility of the T97 for my budget (Waiting list, fingers crossed).
People need to remember how cheap the US MSRP is supposed to be on some of these Keltec guns. The Sub-2000's are like a $350.00 carbine down there.

IMHO, I believe once the novelty factor wears off (folding carbines, extreme magazine capacity bullpup shotgun), the Keltec's I have shot and own offer a sub-par and poorly tested version of more reliable firearms of the same calibre. They have had sight problems, feeding problems, ejection problems, the KSG was cracking from racking too hard, while not feeding if you didn't rack hard enough!

There aren't many options if you are holding out for AR compatible mags. Why I'm waiting (for now) for the T97. My 9mm JR carbine is a solid platform from a company that seems to have it's priorities in quality workmanship, not kitsch. If they made a .223, regardless of mags, I'd be on it like white on rice.
