Simmons 6-21 x 44, Anyone here use one? Are they any good? Would this be a good 200-300 yard scope for a 223?

I don't have this particular model but I am useing 2x28mm scout/pistol Simmons scope and 1,5-5x20mm Simmons Whitetail WA scope without issues. They are much better quality than Tasco's and NC Star and cheap Bushnell's IMHO. Try yours, it should be plenty good for 223Rem for plinking and small critters hunting for even longer distances.

I'm using a Simmons Whitetail Classic 6.5-20 X 50 on one of my varmint rifles. It is a good scope, I think it was their top of the line when it was built. It is made in the Philippines, not sure what era that makes it.

However, if the scope you are considering is a 44 Mag I wouldn't be so confident in it, I threw one out because it wouldn't hold its settings and the focus changed when I changed the magnification. As I result I don't trust new Simmons scopes.
 
some how i ended up with one a couple years ago .... i don't have the scope in front of me but it was something like a 4-12x x 44 mm

looking through it gives me a headache , no matter how i adjust the focus .

one of these days i'm going to test it to destruction on my 45-120 ... either on the rifle , or in front of the rifle :D
 
I've got a simmons 6-18X40 (I think it's X40) and I have a terrible time using it. Seems the eye relief is such a narrow range that if I'm not just perfect in cheek/gun placement it's hard to get a good sight line through it. I also had problems in the winter cold with heat off the barrel fogging the outermost glass (even with the sun shade on it. I would not buy another one period, it has just caused me grief and I'll prolly replace it.

Im useing 2 6x24x44 prohunters and a 4x14x44 aetec that were all bought in 2006-2008 when meade owned the simmons name, all good so far.

I looked thru some newer ones 2 weeks ago at wholesale (predator quests) and the glass does not seem to be as good.
