Simmons Scopes: Any interest at all?

Hey CGN Rimfire,

I know there is a specific optic forum, but I'm asking this question here as my question is solely for the rimfire guys. Are there any interest in the higher end Simmons scopes? The new Pro-Target in 4-16X40 and 6-24X44 look pretty interesting for a rimfire target scope. Not huge on the mil-dot reticle but the mil/mil exposed turrets would make up for it. And the Aetec series doesn't look bad for something a bit more stout for a field scope I'm asking because of reasons. :sniper:

Vortex sale on now. Much better for the extra bucks. Also look at the Leupold Freedom series for rimfire

Very true, I'm more interested in thoughts in general though. Also, sales don't always last forever so having a decent alternative at a reasonable price is never a bad thing. (I usually shoot Vortex myself.)
 
Simmons /Tasco same junk.My buddy had one the crosshairs fell out of sighting in after only 1/2 a box of .270 Win............NFG
 
Simmons and Tasco (and Millett) are owned by Bushnell and seem to largely serve as the discount range below even the entry-level Bushnells.

Speaking of which, I've liked my Bushnell 6-18x rimfire with the target knobs and side parallax adjustment, although I may have borked it up with a bad drop. I'm not sure anyone outside of Bushnell engineering can tell you for certain if the QC or materials are notably better or worse between comparable Simmons/Tasco/Bushnell products

The guys on rimfire central use them for backup as a very last option. It’s rare to have someone talk mounting or using one even the cheap guys

For what you spend on a Vortex, you could get something nice instead. Nikon or a Leupold VX-1.

Vortex is 2 things:

1: F@cking.
2: Garbage.
 
When i bought my 458wm it had a simmons scope on it that had been used for moose hunting for many years and many shots. He kept the scope and that 458 killed 3 vortex scopes.
For a 22 for fun id use one if it offered the features i wanted. The glass wont be as nice as a scope with higher quality lenses but you get what you pay for. I have a 8-32x50 on my savage fv. Heavy it is. Clear as my bushnell elites and cost around $125. Its held up even on my 3.5" 12ga
The thing ive found about simmons and tasco scopes is the tracking isnt repeatable. Its ok if you set it and leave it generally. Maybe the higher end models are better im not sure

Bushnells warrenty is great. My buddy admitted to driving over his with a truck and they replaced his scope

I won't bad talk vortex but for budget or mid price scopes I'm only looking at nikon or leupold. I don't know much about the glass, but I find them much more user friendly with more forgiving eye boxes and relief.

I've had all three. And I have to agree. The clarity at distance and eye relief are just better with the Nikon and Leupold VX series.

I'm honestly unsure as to how Vortex mid range scopes became so popular. They're "hard on the eye" in an almost undefinable way, and that adds up to a headache when lying in the short grass staring through one for extended periods of time at a gopher colony. And they have a reputation for wandering zero, or the reticle rotating. For the same price range (within a few $), the Leupolds and Nikons are just nicer across the board.

I've heard good things about the Simmons scope, but don't have any personal experience with them.
 
I have an older Simmons 6-18 with side parallax on my 10/22 and it has been a great scope for that .22. It isn't super accurate out past 100 yards, but I can shoot the middle out of a pop can tab at 50 yards with the scope.
 
Bushnell 3.5-10x36 on my ruger american .17hmr

Vx-freedom 2-7 on my marlin xt-22

Nice scopes

Simmons/tasco , junk for the most part . I had a simmons 2-6x32 handgun scope fail after 30 shots . crosshairs fell out . However their warranty /repair center actually repaired and returned scope to me in less than 30 days.
