what are the new simmons scopes like are they, good?...bad? i haven't really heard much about them and im unsure weather thats a good thing or not, i know the one i looked at when i was at the gunshop the other day was really clear, but the guy there just got them in and had no feed back for me, so i turn to CGN once again for assistance. thanks in advance. .

I've heard good things about they're predator series but as a general rule simmons scopes are lower budget optics. They work well enough and are found on many package rifle deals. For the occasional hunter on a standard caliber they will do ok. Its when one is compared to a higher grade scope sxs that the quality of the optics is found lacking. If you want crystal clear bright sharp images a simmons may not be for you. If your 270 barks but once or twice a year at a deer or moose then you'll be well enough suited

The Predator I looked at at Gander Mountain the other day seemed like a decent scope, but the reputaion of their cheap stuff would lead me to spend money elswhere.

There are plenty of others within the same price range that are better options.

I beleive simmons got bought out a while back, I have the new predator quest 30mm tube with side focus and love it, great eye releif, clear and worked awsome on my 223, also put it on the wifes MDT TAC21 308 and shot awsome, but put her meuller tac back on it so I can put the simmons on my BR 22lr and try this 300 yard 22 shooting :p

Well the above 2 have served me well.

2-7 is more than you will need for hunting applications, and will work well on a .22 at 50m.

Both have great warranties, and should be able to get em almost anywhere.

If you want to keep it cheap go with the Redfield. It is very small and light in a 33mm. Can't be beat for that kind of money!

Go with a Vortex, even if you want to save money for options, the Crossfire is a pretty decent scope AND IF you ever need warranty in Canada, it is one of the best there is.

Best selection of Vortex I have found, is grouse river outfitters, and they actually have em in stock. ;)

The Crossfire series is their lowest end stuff, and I would not go with at least the diamondback.

Here is a review of a few scopes in and around your price range.

1st place - Vortex Diamondback 3-9
2nd place - Burris Fulfield II 3-9
3rd place - Bushnell Elite 3200 3-9
4th place - Redfield Revolution 3-9
5th place - Nikon Prostaff 3-9

Looking at Grouse Rivers webite:

Vortex Diamondback 2-7 x 35mm is $219

Interestingly enough the 3-9 x 40mm is only $209

Wholesale Sports also lists a 1.75 - 5 x 32 as well for $199, but is a little more than Grouse river on the other 2.

The Redfield Revolution 2-7 x 33mm goes for $199 as well.

I think for my soon to be 30-06(haven't decided which yet) I will be picking up a Vortex Diamondback. ;)
