HI everyone, i have few questions. I'm a beginner in this type of gun. I search a gun target and practice shooting.

I find the simonov sks in 7.62x39.
what do you think about this military rifle?, do it's dangerous to use a old military rifle in good condition? does he have a good réputation?, sécur to use with no problem?
Does he exist good ammo of this gun, or just corrosive ammo. does its dangerous to use old corrosive ammo.
I'm looking to it because it have low price.
thank to all and sorry for my poor english.

They are old but they are tough and reliable. The cheap corrosive ammo works well and boiling water can easily clean the corrosive salts off metal parts. It takes a bit of extra time to clean up after it. I keep some non corrosive and use it when I'm only going to shoot a few shots, that way I don't have to worry about cleaning up every time. When I'm going to do a bunch of shooting I use the corrosive, it's cheap and works well. The rifle is easy to assemble and disassemble. It's a fun rifle to shoot, 7.62x39 is mild on the shoulder. If you look around you will find lots of info about this gun on this site.

The SKS is one of the more popular semi auto milsurp rifles in use here. They were designed and manufactured to take a lot of abuse and even then, not all of them in the market were ever subjected to that. There are even older rifles (WWI types) that are still in use if that is any assurance.

Enjoy it. :D

Good reliable gun. Very safe.

Lots of surplus cheap ammo ($200 for 1000)

There is good commercial ammo too (Winchester, Remington, etc), but it goes for $12-18 a box of 20.

Corrosive ammo is not dangerous. It would not do anything to your rifle. Just clean it after use. People shot corrosive ammo for many years in the past, but still you can find an old good gun.

As stated previously, very cheap to shoot when buying bulk surplus ammo. Very reliable, lots of upgrades available and the rifle is even excellent hunting rifle for Whitetail deer sized game and smaller when you use the soft point ammunition.

Not dangerous at all. Good rifle cheap surplus ammo. All of those properly stored. You better get one. IT IS FUN

SKS are not dangerous and I trust that steel case czech ammo more then brass. Since it is stronger and can handle hard extractions better.
