A better comparison would be the SG556 to the 551 since that's the model it's based off.

"Due to import restrictions, the American civilian market required a partially American-made version. The SIG 556 is a commercial variant of the SG 551 designed to meet these requirements. SG556 barrel trunion is welded to the receiver in a slightly different manner from the Swiss Arms.
