i picked this shotgun up today, and could use some help in establishing a value. the condition is excellent and it is a 12 gauge.

It's the functional equivalent of a Merkel. Looks to be stocked quite low at the comb. I'd guess value in the 1200-1800 range.

Nice gun, GG. It looks like it is either a model 235 or 73. The 73 has more scroll engraving and yours looks like it matches the 235 picture. I think they may have mixed up the pictures of the two models in the book. In the book the picture of the 235 has more engraving. The 73 picture also doesn't have the sideclips on the bolsters. Are those cocking indicators on the side just to the lower right of the bolster in the picture of the action? In the book the picture of the 73 doesn't have those features and they are usually a more expensive option. If you google the two models you may find some ads with pictures of the two. The values in my U.S. gun book has the 235 at Exc-900, VG-700, GD-550, FR-400. The 73 is Exc-950, VG-750, GD-600, and FR-400. Good, solid, well made guns if they handle to your tastes.
