Since Canada Post is no longer reliably delivering packages...

Since a lot of postal workers are now not even making an attempt to deliver a parcel, but just leaving a card advising you to pick up your parcel at the nearest postal outlet, does this mean you need an ATT to transport your pistol from there to your home? Just wondering if it's illegal to go pick up your handgun at the postal outlet without an ATT?

And away we go........

Yes, you need an ATT. Didn't know what was in the parcel?? Give a try (and by some small chance get caught) and let us know what the judge says.

Just purchased a restricted and during the transfer process was told that if I wasn't home when it was shipped to my residence, I would need to call in and get a STAAT in order to pick up the rifle at the postal outlet.......that is what I did.

You have 3 options:

1. Take the few minutes it takes to call the CFO and get a Temporary ATT and bring it home, even if that means you wait one extra night.

2. Take your chances feigning ignorance even though 99/100 times we know exaaactly what's in there. Tracking numbers and all that.

3. Leave a signed note for CanadaPost and have them leave it in a relatively hidden place outside your home.

Before you blast CP (under the assumption you have a restricted firearm with "Do Not Safe Drop" and "Sig req'd", which it should be):

1) Were you home? Was the doorbell rung or did they knock?
2) Did the store/sender write this as "Hold for pickup"? I was getting pissed off when this happened to me a few times, then found out the store requested this

If you do find out it's just your postie's laziness, have a word with your parcel guy and if that doesn't work, call and complain. I do find CP's parcel delivery to be late the past few weeks. I've never had a package lost by CP yet (knock on wood). STATT's shouldn't be necessary if there's someone home to sign for the package and an attempt has been made to deliver it.

Technically, you need a STATT, while the Postie doesn't even need a PAL. There is the unfairness that makes us angry.

Here they just sneak up and leave the note, they don't even attempt to ring the bell or knock on the door.

If that's true, call and complain. I have a friend who is a postie and they get in trouble when they don't do their jobs properly. Even when they don't fill out those 'pick up cards' properly. I've received those totally blank... but I've always had a delivery attempt made, except for the store that was asking for "card for pickup". That was very inconvenient of them.

I had a heated Discussion with a sales Dork at Epps on Sunday about this. His words were that ass hole that told you need a STATT to go from the Post Office to home doesn't know ####. So if Epps tells you, You don't need one I guess you don't.

Ontario CFO told me that I did, last time I spoke to them on the subject. That phrase does fit though :runaway:

Wouldn't be the first time I heard something incorrect at the gun store or a range. Technically you do. This has been discussed at length many times over. If one would listen to everyone at the store or range, rather than reading the law - you'd have problems if you were stopped by the cops.

The guy from epps is absolutly wrong.
I've never met the man but he's dishing out bad advice. Make the call, have it emailed to you and you will have it in minutes. I know guys that even walk into the store with locks and a case and open the package right infront of them. Mostly because he's rubbing it in that the "Law" says he has to make a scene in the post office. Haha
Get caught without an statt and see what happens.

At our old place, I happened to be downstairs next to the door & heard the mailbox lid shut... I opened the door & the postman was walking away AFTER HAVING LEFT AN ATTEMPTED DELIVERY NOTICE!!! Was I ticked off & he knew it!!! He politely (sheepishly) said he'd go get my package...

Unfortunately, this does happen...

Cheers

Just for your FYI, if they get caught doing that and you complain, they get in sh!t. Some are lazy as hell and by doing that ^, they can save about an hour on their day.

I've had issues with UPS and CanPar leaving rifles and ammo on my doorstep for 8hrs while at work (when DO NOT SAFE DROP/Sig req'd is specified), so I'd rather have something left at the depot than on my porch for someone to potentially steal.

Since CP has made some changes over the last year or so they have done this multiple times to me.

I used to praise CP, no longer! In the past year they have screwed up more of my parcels than they got right. Every f@&$ up you could imagine. I have complained multiple times, nothing has changed at all.

I'd say to that Epps fella " When you point a finger at someone, you are pointing three back at yourself "
Because I live near a hamlet and you better believe you need an STATT. Sometimes I'm gone working and my gal brings home a box, but what can you do, right?

Same here. Next time I expect the note to be stuck on the door with an arrow. You know, so they don't have to get out of the truck.

My experience is mixed. I've been getting lots of stuff from china (goods + free shipping cost less than a stamp !) lately. Out of the 20+ packages, some small were posted in the mailbox, some required signature and a note was left (I was home), and once, it was delivered in person when the signature was needed as well. It would seem there is two pass, one pass in the morning (regular mail) and one pass in the afternoon for parcel (stuff from Numrich, or bought from CGN, including firearms and parts). I haven't devised a clear pattern :-/
