Since Canada Post is no longer reliably delivering packages...

Don't take chances. You know that you ordered a FA and expecting a delivery via Canpost. It only takes few minutes call to CFO to get a STATT at no cost. Not all Law Enforcement Officers are versed with Firearm Laws. Opportunity is what they are after. The moment they see or hear "Firearm", they will find a way to go after you.

Stay safe!

How do I know what is in the box.....its not til I get home to open it

Ok, what if my wife picks up the parcel before I get home like I said earlier, we live in a small remote community so we do a lot of shopping online so it can happen easily. Are the CFO police going to put her in jail or just call her childish.

No because she has no business knowing what is in a package not addressed to her. See the difference? She couldn't have ordered it.

If you wish to comply with the law you need a STATT.

It is interesting how many otherwise law abiding people are willing to compromise this law/rule.
Usually people do that when they perceive a law to be unfair or silly or to have no point.

Given the quality service that I have received for many years, I find statements like this really interesting.
Guess I'm just one of the very, very few lucky ones.

There are two reasons you need a STATT:
1)To give the CFO a reason for being.
2)To make life as miserable as possible for the restricted/prohib. owners.

We had a letter carrier in the past that tried the "just leave the card" thing. I caught him once going back down the walk and not only had he not rung the door bell, he didn't even have the package in his hand....he had to get in the truck and look for it.....no intent to even try and delivery it!

The last couple of people have been pretty good. I guess it just depends on the luck of the draw in terms of who your carrier is.

IMO There is a direct relationship between the sheer number of stupid/silly laws and an overall decline in people's respect for the law and the police who have to enforce it.

What do you get when you put 50 Postal Workers and 50 Lesbians together in a room?

100 people who don't do dyck!:p

We've a new Post mistress now actually, she will put the notice in our box by mid-aft ( Mail arrives at 11:00). The last one would wait til 4:30 to put an attempted delivery slip in the box; painful, since you know it's been sitting there for 4-5 hours. Considering the amount of mail is so little they deliver it in a mini-van (like 20 packages), the previous Post mistress was a walking waste of oxygen.

By cutting corners, they get to end their day earlier. Some do their jobs properly and others want to get another hour of drinking in. My posties have been pretty good, but I've witnessed this phenomenon as well.

I was too, with the older mail lady that I had for years...the young new mailman is the one that didn't try to deliver my parcel, and he's put the neighbour's mail in my box on two occasions... Anyway, I didn't complain (parcel) due to the potential fallout...
But as has been mentioned, if you do call the CFO and get this statt thing, you'd still have to open the box at the postal counter, pull out your pistol in public, (that'll be appreciated), put a trigger lock on it, and then finally close and lock your handgun box. To me, this is a lot likelier to generate a call into the police by someone in the area, cause some stress to clueless folks nearby, and maybe get you hassled by cops that don't know the transport laws. Much less drama just picking up the parcel and going straight home, after making sure there was no ammo or anything firearms related in the vehicle.

The lady that regularly delivers my packages from CP is fantastic. I was down the road at a store and she just happened to be there and noticed me, asked if I would be home in 10 minutes to receive my package and sure enough she was there 10 minutes later. Another time she was off and the dillhole that was covering for her never delivered the package even though it was scanned out for delivery and I stayed home from work all day waiting for it. When she delivered it first thing in the morning she apologized for her coworkers screw up. If it weren't for her fantastic service I would not want anything to do with Canada Post.

OK here is a question, we are getting the community mail boxes in our area soon! It will not be far away but it could be a couple blocks, (which isn't much farther than our local post office)! So do I need an att to pick up the package from the mail box 2 blocks away? These community mail centers have sections that will hold a sizeable package and for sure any restricted handgun! It is still not on the property that is stated on my permit!

Restricted firearms are supposed to be sent Signature Req'd and therefore, delivered to your house. Definitely not always the case, but that is the best case scenario so you don't need a STATT.

Yes you are right,, on both counts! I have had to sign and have just had them given to me no sig reqd! But I guess if it is left at the box I will have to call to get the statt which as said before is not really a big deal!

Here they just sneak up and leave the note, they don't even attempt to ring the bell or knock on the door.

here in burnaby its 50/50 sometines they come in and ring the bell, sometimes no. I dont know who decides what makes them ring and what makes them just drop the note.
atts are the definition of absurdity...

bingo!
i can just see myself putting a trigger lock on an AR at pharmasave... jesus! canada post is right next to the pharmacy counter. sigh... that will likely cause one hell of a shock. global news reporters will be there at the same time as the rcmp.
headlines at 6pm, firearm owner brandishing military assault weapon at pharmacists, stay tuned for more of this developing story...

You need a short term ATT . It's the law. Willful ignorance to the contents of your package will not help you in court. It is your responsibility as a responsible law abiding gun owner to get the little piece of paper the CFO says you need. Saying " I didn't know what was in the package" is a childish excuse that may have worked of we were in grade school but we are adults, with responsibilities.
You don't have to open your package in the post office and inspect it and trigger lock it. It is reasonable to assume that the shipper shipped the firearm according to the law.

Not getting an STATT so you can plead ignorance and not "have to open my package in the post office" is another childish excuse.
The CFO and the CFC have been very clear about this. No room for interpretation or opnion on this matter.

Could all the people saying "it's just a package until I get it home," and "how am I supposed to know what's in the package?," please just stop, you make us all look bad and you're just muddying up the waters.
If you want to call yourself a responsible law abiding gun owner, as it seems everyone on this site does, then you need an STATT period.

So it's responsible to get a statt but not irresponsible not to follow it... I have never once had a retailer ship a firearm with a external lock and rarely with a trigger lock... If your going violate your ATT you shouldn't bother with it at all

Amen... quit being such a pansy, and just go to the post office and pick up your package. Throw it in the trunk and wait until you get home to open it. Not too hard guys

And ya, it's most likely not properly stored in the box anyways, so if you really feel the need to call for an ATT to go get your package from the post office then you may as well stop and pick up some tampons on the way home...

Haha!

Thats easy with my PO, its in a Shoppers Drugmart!
