Single action army

Neither the Ruger Vaquero or Blackhawk are Single Action Army revolver copies. The are Single Action though. Uberti makes, arguably the best of the copies now available of the Colt SAA. Beretta, who owns Uberti also makes a SAA under their own label ie Stampede. It is not a true copy as it has the firing pin safety similar to the Rugers.

I own a 1st generation Colt SAA, in 45 Colt, and shot it on numerous occasions. . Didn't take me long to grow a fondness for shooting it and since I reload for 45 Colt I could afford to use it but had concern over using a firearm worth considerable amount of money so I purchased a Pietta SAA, in 45 Colt, and must say it's as close to the Colt as it gets. . There's no transfer bar and the firing pin is on the hammer and has all the hammer clicks like the Colt. . There's a few minor differences but no big deal. I believe I paid $450 for the Pietta and shoot it without a worry over wearing out a classic. . Very good value in a Pietta SAA as it's a very nice handgun for a very reasonable price.

Ya well if you want to get technical 357 mag is not a single action army caliber either

Nothing to do with caliber, it is the design is completely different. The Piettas and Uberti's are clones of the Colt SAA the Rugers are not. The Rugers have the benefit of a better design eg. The screws on the Rugers are less likely to back out unlike the Colt design. To the OP use blue loc tite on all the frame screws and the the screw that holds to housing for the rod that pushs out the cases if you do buy a SAA.

The Colt SAA has been made for.22LR, 38 Long, 38spl, .357 Mag as well as another half dozen or so calibers.

The OP did ask about SAA revolvers.

OP, I don't think you can go wrong with a Pietta SAA copy.

I've got one in 45 Colt without the transfer bar, and it has 4 clicks to #### just like the Colt SAA's. They're very reasonably priced, as well. I'd suggest you take up reloading if you buy one, the ammo is typically a $1 a shot :eek::eek:

It's one of my favourite guns to shoot, and any time anyone sees it at the range, they want to talk about it and shoot a cylinder full.
 
I owned two Pietta SAA in .357/38 over last years.
They are rock solid and excellent pistols.
Very reliable, well made, great shooters.
Paying $2K for a Colt is madness. Pietta will set you back $450 on the EE and you drop the other $1500+ on ammo.
You won't regret a Pietta. I can't speak for Uberti personally as I have no experience first hand so I try not to spread internet horse s**t.
 
The Ubertis are built with the sane quality as the Piettas. The El Patron versions have much better sights and have been factory tuned. I have a regular Uberti in 45 Colt and an El Patron in 38/357. The real difference is the much thicker front blade and the wider notch in the rear. Both shoot extremely well. I do better with the El Patron because of the wider sights. You can't go wrong with either manufacturer. They are excellent pistols.

If you want the authentic Colt SAA replica, you’ll have to buy an older model.
As Uberti/Pietta changes the pin on the hammers.
They added a new safety feature ,thus eliminating one of the clicks.

I’ve owned Uberti El Patron, Pietta,Ruger and a real Colt.

The Colt is the best and the rest is not even comparable.

But if you have to choose a clone, the older El Patron is the best.
 
Armco has a couple of STI Texican SAA .45lc a couple of years ago, kinda wish I’d bought one. Price was on par with a Colt. Something different I guess:p
 
This is my old model (1968) Ruger Blackhawk,
it's as close to a Colt as you can get with much better build quality than any newer Colt clones in my opinion.
4 clicks, no transfer bar safety, and no "read owners manual" nonsense stamped into the barrel.
Made in the USA!

I might look for an older Pietta, and I wish I could afford a Colt.

Those 4 clicks you feel and hear when you pull the hammer back spell C-O-L-T.

The STI Texican is considered to be the best SAA ever, surpassing the original Colt and USFA. Sadly only 68 were ever made before being discontinued.
 
Piettas are great quality revolvers
Last year marstar had a sale on them on Father's Day so if you want one they will probably have another sale on them. They were a good deal with free shipping to boot

I hear ya Harry, I think Gunnar’s where 7.5” barrel if I recall correctly, if they where in a 6 or 4 3/4” configuration, one would be in my safe. When I finally decided that the longer barrel was ok and called......well you snooze you lose:p
