Going to look at some percussion guns in the next couple of weeks. There are 2 or 3 english single barrel shotguns in the collection if I remember right. They appear to be solid guns but I don't remeber the bore sizes. Is there any market for these, I am going to try and buy a couple of orginal percussion rifles but may have to take the shotguns also.

depends on location, price, quality and condition. Anything is marketable if the price is right :>) I would suggest you learn what a belgian proof mark looks like as well as a british one. Belgian guns are the economy models and worth much less than british guns.

If the barrels are damascus "ring" them to see if there are any voids in the metal. Remove the barrel from the stock, hang the barrel from a string through the tang bolt hole and strike the barrel with something metal. The barrel should ring if it is solid.

Thanks for the advice,
I was there last night and had a quick look. The three shotguns are Birmingham proofed. 2 are back action locks and one is a converted flint and this is likely the best of the 3.
No decisions yet if he is going to sell the percussion guns, but there is 2 Sopers and a Marston that I wouldn't mind to get. All three rifles need work but they are Canadian . I did get a 3 band Snider so far

Which Soper? WH or P? William H was earlier, Philo made some very fine rifles. Be very careful with any restoration; easy to do more harm than good.
