Single loading (Magazine-less) a semi-auto rifle...

I have single loaded thousands of rounds of 75Gr Hornady Amax Loads ( I use a single shot follower so it holds the bolt back) I just hit bolt release to slam it forward to chamber . I generally use the CCI BR4 primers . I have never ever in tens of thousands of rounds used the "Hard Military CCI No1 primers .

Those ###y looking bullets are too long to load to magazine length

I was bored one day and single fed repeatedly a dummy round with live primer ( worst it could do is stick a bullet down the bore ...easy to clear ) using bolt release

The dent from the floating firing pin never came close to firing primer off

The little indentation stops getting any bigger after a couple of trys

I agree with the folks at Camp Perry.

A while ago a buddy took me shooting, brought his Stag AR-15, nearly 1000 rounds of .223, eyes, ears, food, water, scope, but, guess what? No mags. It was about a half hour drive back to his place, get the mags, drive back to the range. Guess what I did the whole time he was gone? Yep, that's right, single fire the rifle.

done it on my own rifle a few times too.

Now, that said, maybe on a Garand/M14, bad news? Not sure exactly how the John Garand design compares to the Eugene Stoner stuff.

The Garand and m14 are hardly modern rifles, they were both dead ends with a list of design flaws. I am sure better info is to be found in the Milsurp forums.
