Probably going to get a saddle ring safety delete on my xlr. Thinking of using a single point harness on it. Maybe with my ranch hand too. Any good or bad experiences with it. Should be good for grouse with shotgun.

I tried one guiding bears for a 14” Mossberg 590A1. I really didn’t like it, as the gun wobbled and swung around far to much even when reined right in. I started dreaming up solutions and researching mall ninja gear that would hold it in place more so a guy could tolerate it for a whole season, but determined I was better served by a conventional sling or Velcro / quick backpack side setup. Don’t take my single experience as a reason not to, but when you aren’t expecting to shoot a bad guy at any moment, they’re rather a pain in the ass for hunting where you have to put miles on. Probably would be stellar in a tree stand though.

I tried it. Hated it. Loved front ready muzzle low carry. Went with 2 point front ready sling similar to safari sling but attached solidly to rifle

Tactical slings give you lots of options over how to carry, and they give you control over the firearm, plus ease of ready position.

I find a two-point sling set up with the two points fairly close together do everything a single point can do plus more. Even if they're only a couple inches apart, say where the receiver meets the barrel or forend in the front and where the stock joins the receiver in the back, the resulting increase in stability is considerable. My personal preference is front point at the rear of the forend or at the front of the receiver on the left side (behind where my support hand holds the rifle), and the rear as far back on the stock as available (on the right side).

If you’re into constantly controlling the muzzle while it tries to swing and dangle around go for it, better off to have it in your hands with no sling from my experience. A two point like the Vickers sling with a paraclip and a sling plate between the stock and receiver would be better. You can quickly switch between mounting points at the muzzle and the receiver.

I’ve tried both and the traditionaly mounted 2pt sling is a lot more comfortable and functional, especially while walking trails for chickens.

My ever are set up with a leather shell holder on the stock with an attachment point on the top right side ( right handed shooter) my sling is attached on the front swivel and the leather attachment point on the stock this allows me to carry in traditional over the shoulder or by running the sling around my back ( over my right shoulder and under my left arm) it keeps my buttstock right at my right armpit area( clavicle area )with the barrel pointed at the ground in my left side. I can go completely hands free yet just grab and shoulder the rifle to shoot. A sling with some stretch allows the gun to be held tight to the body yet have enough stretch to shoot slung up.

I am using a single point on a 20 ga bullpup for turkey hunting. It fits up under your armpit nicely, out of the way when moving, and is ready in an instant. A regular configured gun might not be as comfortable single pointed and I can unsling just as quickly on a long gun
