I'm having trouble finding any retailers with a single shot 20GA slug gun in stock. Does anyone know who holds some?

I'm thinking of the CVA Hunter, or H&R (possibly discontinued?), Rossi etc.

A single shot 20ga with a slugs will have a fair bit of recoil.

Any particular reason you're after a single shot? There tends to be lots of turkish shotguns kicking around, although most are 12ga.

I have the H&R Ultra light slug hunter in 20ga, very accurate with remington accutips. They don't make them anymore. They also made one with a heavy barrel, it would be heavier to carry but would lessen recoil, the odd time you see a used one around.

That’s what I have too. They are extremely accurate but no longer available.

It’s not a single shot but savage has a bolt action 20 gauge that is also very accurate.

It seems like all rifled single shots have been discontinued in the slug category, all manufacturers have colluded and done the same it seems. I like the safety and security of a single shot. Also looks very short and handy package!

A bolt action or pump action would be equally as safe. There are some manufacturers that will sell a slug barrel.

What about a bolt action?

That might be just simply the easier route. I hadn't noticed that that savaged updated their 220 line with accustock+accufit. Pretty nice rifle

Do you think that the plane jane Bushnell 3200 2-7x will survive the recoil of the 20GA sabots? I'm leaning to think it should. I think it's advertised for 375H&H capable...!?

I just pulled the trigger on the refreshed Savage 220 from online retailer :dancingbanana:

They changed black powder regulations in Quebec this year, they allow shotguns now so I can't help myself from trying out some new gear this season!

I had a cheap bushnell xlt on mine and after 3 years of hunting with it had to send it back for warranty work. It was replaced so it wasn't a problem, however it could have been had I not inspected my guns prior to hunting season.

3200 would work great on a slug gun. I have a bushnell trophy on a 20ga and nikon prostaff on a 12ga. No issue with either. I've been eyeing the refreshed model 220 with the accufit stock and scope rail myself. Let me know how they cycle the first shell from the magazine. That is what kept me from buying one in the past. Tried 2 different guns at LGS that both had the same issue. Shell would get hung up feeding but that was shortly after they were introduced. Could be better now.

Do we know how well savage took care of owners with feeding issues in the past? Would they offer free service/replacement?

I found an author that reassuringly wrote;
The first run of 220s had feeding issues that weren’t corrected on the author’s gun. Instead, he had the bolt jeweled by a gunsmith.Michael R. Shea
The first-year 220s had feeding issues. Savage has since corrected that, but I never sent my dad’s gun to them for work. I did have a gunsmith jewel the bolt to slick things up. It helped, but not much.

Fingers crossed, this second generation 220 doesn't have this problem

my 220 was bought last summer without the accustock and a few guys that hunt here at my place have them and not one has had feeding issues. I wouldn't hesitate myself to buy an older one. my buddy just bought a new one and it's fine as well, except for the long mount that comes with them. I swapped it out right away for a shorter egw mount and threw on a leupold freedom for my daughter. works like a charm.

^^^^^ I have the heavy barrel version OP.
Mine shoots well with the accutips also...

Not the kind of rifle you want to pack around.
Mitigates recoil well though.

I should be getting the 220 very soon. After watching a video of the refreshed 220, I'm curious to know if I'm going to get the textured bolt handle or just the knob. It's maybe unique to the asian market? Savage doesn't showcase this bolt handle!? The video also shows off very well the inside of the stock to show the accustock aluminum foundation.
