Single shot 45-70, other than the #1?

Wait for a No.1-S with 22" "C" barrel .45/70... they pop up now and again... balance perfectly, and shoulder and carry very nicely... mine is very accurate with a number of loads, not fussy at all. Currently just shooting the 325 FTX for deer and bears.

I have been looking/hoping/wishing for a Ruger #1 for few years now but...don't like the look that much.

Okay, I read that and realized that it is indeed possible that some don't worship the #1. So, assuming that you are not the troll I first mistook you for :), I would opine that of the many models suggested here, the H&R Buffalo Classic and/or Handi-Rifle offers by far the best bang-for-buck. Not as nicely finished as a #1, an 1885 nor even a Henry, but they tend to be excellent shooters for decent money. Discontinued now, unfortunately, but they come up on the EE regularly and as long as you find a seller who isn't convinced that his gun has mysteriously morphed into solid gold, you should be able to get into one for $400 (Handi) to $500 (Buff Classic) and it will be money well spent. They have an extensive following, so if you decide to later upgrade you should have no difficulty getting your money back easily.

I've owned ruger no.1, no.3, handi rifles, Henry single shots, sharps rifles of various brands, and high walls (win 1885's) - the only ones I kept are the winchester 1885's. Personal preferences vary of course - but I would get a high wall and be done be with it.

Look at the Traditions G2, I just purchased one because I could not obtain the Henry, no regrets. 7lbs with optic, ceracoat finish, good break( not too loud with 45-70) With a lever revolution factory ammo I’m shooting groups just around or just under an inch at 100 you can’t beat that, with my 405 grain cast, low velocity loads, I am printing just under an inch and a half. Epps has em.

T/C Contenders are my favorite single shot carbines I have two in 45-70 scopes on both barrels are now VX2 1-4x duplex reticles.

That Traditions G2 is interesting...but all the variations are geared towards a modern look. The appeal of the H&R Buffalo Classic, to me, is the old-timey "feel" to the styling; nice walnut, crescent buttplate and faux colour case-hardening, combined with very useable aperture sights and a very shootable trigger.

If Henry would only bring out a similar model in the single-shot line, I'd be all over it. A brass-framed Henry Buff Classic with a nice long barrel and a reasonable price tag (by today's standards) would make a nice-looking rifle that you could use for hunting while remaining guilt-free when the inevitable first scratch appears.

I enjoy a 45-70 rolling block and there are a couple in the EE.
You won't be able to load to the same level as a Ruger #1 but it's got the historical accuracy going for it.

Especially if you handload the 45/70 with Holy Black and a heavy bullet. I use 535gn.

If you are still looking my unfired SS H&R is for sale under Sporting rifles
If you go Encore they are available in 45/70 which is what I am getting But the barrel costs what I am asking for a whole rifle.

I'm thinking of selling my stainless Super 14 T/C Contender 45-70 barrel been looking at buying a stainless 15" Encore/Prohunter 45-70 barrel for my stainless Prohunter.

I'd mount a Leupold VX2 1-4x20mm heavy duplex scope would be able to fire my Marlin 1895GS 45-70 loads in it 300gr - 550gr cast now that would be a short - light thumper on both ends... :sok2

Order direct from henrypride.com - they ship to canada

No they won't. That is expressly indicated on the item https://henrypride.com/collections/...015-series-single-shots?variant=1505748582425

The note in Red says: We're sorry but these cannot be sold/shipped direct to Canada. ITAR/EAR Export Controls apply and Canadian consumers will need to purchase them from a retail dealer, in Canada, who can order from an Importer.

But I haven't found a retailer in Canada thus the question.

Anybody know where to source the scope rail mount for the Henry single shot in Canada? I would order the Henry if I could source a scope rail.

The scope rail is the same one as for the H&R SB2 Handy rifles... Weaver #82, EGW #46200 or #46202 (20 MOA), or one piece mounts DNZ Gamereaper #11003 or Durasight Z2 Dead-On. All can readily be had in most Canadian shops or online... even on Amazon.ca.
