I’d like to purchase a single shot 12 gauge shotgun. What do you guys suggest. I’ve been looking at the huglu’s, they seem to be pretty good value. Or maybe a used Cooey. Any other manufactures to consider for new? Main use would be casual bustin clays and a bit of hunting. I’d like to keep it under 1500 I think.
 
Have a look at the Hatsan Optima. Site sponsor Fishing World appears to have a few in stock in both 12 and 20 gauge. They seem sturdy and decently made. You would have alot of $$$ cash left over for ammo!
 
Wait for a nice condition Cooey single shot - reliable and inexpensive.The Cooey 840 plastic forend spacer is a bit vulnerable, but new metal spares are available. The original Model 84 is all steel parts.

Second choice is a NEF/H&R single shot - a little more money, more recent production, also quite usable.

Third choice - CBC Brazilian - in it's many guises, Remington or CIL importers - a bit cruder manufacture, many have a broken forend spacer, which is unobtainable.

I would not buy made in China junk, and I have no experience with Turkish single shots.

I'm assuming that your $1500 price limit is a mistake, and that you meant $150 or so.

At the $1500 price point there is one stand out choice - Browning BT-99, a serious Trap gun.
 
If you have the money check out the new henry single shots. They come in brass or steel. Real walnut wood and choke tubes. The huglu singles are folders. Well made

1500 gives you a bit of flexibility and because you are ok with Turkish guns, Tristar has a 3 barrel combo trap gun. It comes with an o/u barrel and two single barrels, all with removable chokes for around $1000. It also has an adjustable comb, butt pad and nice walnut which make it look like a heck of a deal.
 
Your budget allows you to pick something nice. No reason to compromise.
My pick for my single shot 12 is a Greener GP (Martini action) and I haven't looked back. Cooeys and Baikals are probably better than anything being imported right now and cheaper too.
 
Thanks for the responses. I don’t need to spend 1500, I just figured if there was something nice I would consider it. The Henry looks nice, I really like their lever guns. And I’m have to look into the greener gp.
 
How does one find a GP Greener Martini action in 12gauge . I missed. An opportunity to buy one years ago and cannot find one.

How does one find a GP Greener Martini action in 12gauge . I missed. An opportunity to buy one years ago and cannot find one.
 
Does anyone make a single shot that takes down like a double? Not a trap specific gun but a hunting model. Better quality than the baikal preferably lol
 
No Canadian gun cabinet is complete without a Cooey in it.

Here is mine (a 20g). My grandfather decided I should "look after it for him" a few years back.

I have a Browning BT-99 for Sale. I am asking $1300. Message me if you are interested.
 
I have two Winchester Model 37's. .

A first year (1936) Red Letter Gun with the pigtail lever, narrow hammer, larger forearm and the choke marked as full.

The second one is a post war gun (late 40's early 50's) with no Red Letter and the choke marked just "Choke" meaning full.

I like them, they're a very well made firearm. The barrels read "Steel Built" to indicate all the components are made of steel.

For your budget I would consider a Double Barrel .They have a much larger magazine capacity and are fun to shoot.If you buy a nice one it will hold it's value and become an investment.Browning makes a nice one.

Frank grimes, why a single shot? What is the reasoning behind your choice for a single shot? And I am not saying that it is a bad choice ... When I am on foot all day upland hunting ... most often I grab my H&R NEF single shot because it is the lightest 12ga that I own. But for CAD $1500.- you can get a very nice double barrel ... or a very nice pump shotgun like a Wingmaster.
