Single shot shotguns

I have a nice old Winchester Model 37. At first glance it looks like a Cooey, but a closer look shows the hammer and opening lever in opposite places to the Cooey. I like singe shots, have several different kinds. My all time favourite is my dear old Savage 24-H DL .22/20. Bought it new 1967. Put lots of chicken and grouse meat on the table.

An old thread, but always a good topic. Single guns rule.

One of my favourite hunting guns, a 16-bore single-barrelled hammer gun, made by Thomas Seymour of London (1841-1844), converted from percussion to centrefire before 1870 (2 1/2" chamber, twist barrel later nitro-proofed. Weighs less than 5 pounds.

And just for fun, a few pin-fire singles:

Boss & Co. of London, 1864, 12-bore. One of only three made by Boss.

John Dickson & Son of Edinburgh, 1875, 12-bore.

Thomas George Sylven of London,@1865, a rebuild around a Richard Seffens (1820-1825) barrel, 16-bore.

Just picked up this old BSA Single X11. It's built like a tank and tight as a vault. This one is slated for a complete restoration.

Winchester model 37 in 410

My grandpas gun.

Had to learn to hit clays with that from every angle before I was allowed to move up to 20 guage. I never shot game with it but my dad and grandpa ended many little critters and birds with it. I recall my ammo was given to me in a pototoe sack that had 300 hand loads my dad had made up. It took one summer break. I was good around the 200th. At the end of the sack i could get 2 clays thrown coming at me or going away with my single shot reloading while clays were flying. I was 10.

If you can hit a clay with a 410 you can hit a black duck with a 20 guage was the rule.

Currently, two Iver Johnsons: a Champion in 12 gauge that I keep in the truck for emergencies (grouse sighting or dispatching injured wildlife on the highway) and a 28 gauge.. the 28 is the same model that I learned to hunt with as a kid, so I eventually found the same version and occasionally take it out for grouse & hare hunting.

I still own a Cooey Mod 84 in 20ga my father gave me over 60yrs ago. Shot my first duck with it in the Delta Marsh outside Richmond BC. Also own an NEF Pardner in 10ga I picked up for $100 a few years back. Works great on geese as long as i keep the shot #3 and under.

I have two single shots, my favourite is a BSA Single X11 on top and the other is an F.E.G. Hammerless. Both in 12 gauge with full choke and walnut stocks
