:) I think I am going to get a new ( to me) gun. Single shot in very light cal. I have a hornet in Browning repeater and #3 ruger. I think it will be in that power, 223 or less, not a 17. What have you seen out there? Win 85' Sharps, maybe a rolling block. Open to ideas. Any contact info helpful. Thanks AJ.

I have had a lot of luck with the Encore Pro Hunter platform. They are pretty easy to fix up the trigger pull as well.
Have a 22 k hornet and 223 in the lighter calibers and had the barrels shortened to 22" from the factory 28".
Have a 20 vartarg coming in a custom barrel, plus a 17 hornet, and working on a new 20cal wildcat. Check out the 20 Vartarg - its a pretty impressive caliber.

I have a Handi Rifle in 223. Bull barrel laminated stock. Great little shooter. I getting honest .75" groups with 45gr Vmax if I do my part. Hard to find now that hey quit making them, bu you never know when one might show up.

While hard to find in Canada now I would suggest a T/C Contender carbine.

I have/had barrels in 17 Rem/204 Ruger/223 that would fit the bill for you.

If you want lesser cartridges 218 Bee and 22 Hornet were very popular.

When I was looking for ruger no1s a couple of weeks ago a store in Vancouver (can't remember which one) had a no1 in 223. I have been keeping my eyes open for one in 22 hornet for a while now.

OP, if you do go the T/C Encore route, I brought in a bunch of barrel stub kits from Eagle View Arms out of Washington State (they have a web site). In the process of getting good quality barrels installed. Its not a cheap way to go but you then get a custom barrel in any almost caliber you can think of, which is what I'm doing. PM me if you need info on these Stub kit options. Just know that its an expensive option.

A custom Martini based on the .310 Cadet action, perhaps chambered for the K-Hornet would be interesting. For an off the shelf standard size rifle, there is just nothing better than a Ruger #1. If you are interested in a compact survival rifle concept, a TC Contender fitted with a folding pistol grip stock is worthy of consideration.

If you can find a TC Contender I'd go that route. I have a newer frame that came with a 204 barrel and swapped a CGNer for a 223 and then bought a 22lr bull barrel for it. All are good shooters and the gun is nice and small and handy. someday I'd like to find barrels for it in 17hmr, 22mag, and 357 magnum. I had a H&R in 204 a few years ago that shot pretty decent, but I always found it be a bit quirky. You had to have the forend screw just the right tightness or it wouldn't group worth crap. If you got it bang on, the gun shot great.

Have a Ruger No.1 in .218 Bee, also a Anschutz bolt in .22 Hornet, The Ruger using L'il Gun is quite a step up from the Hornet.

Oh yeah I totally agree on the Contender...

I have 6 frames and 18 barrels awesome fun guns and you will be amazed at the accuracy example shooting 40gr VMax out of my 21" 223 factory tapered barrel when I do my part I can put 3 into 1 1/2" at 300 yrds.
