Single shots for big game.

I’m looking at doing some work with Single Shots here shortly. Both shotguns and rifles so this post has been great information.

Now I just need to find some locally to take photos of for the work.

I used to have a B78 in 6mm Rem with beautiful wood and a light octagon barrel and a Ruger No.1 in .375 H&H. And this thread reminds me of something - I am a gunaholic. I feel like I need more, and a greater variety. I thought aging would cure me, but it hasn't - I'm just as weak as I was before.

I just picked up a nice lil 44mag single. Not sure why yet but I handled it I liked it and I left without it. Next day I had to go back and buy it

I need to add a 44mag to the fleet as I have a lot of reloading for it from previous rifles I've had and for what ever reason decided to move along.

Having a hard time deciding on the single cva that is a hard to beat price or a 12" barrel lever. The lever is just a more versatile, fun rifle to shoot and great in that short a platform, but the price is an OUCH! So here I sit without a 44 mag. I like to carry the 44 mag with me in the sxs when out riding, you know, just in case, even when not in hunting season. Just a great habit I have I guess.

I bought the CVA v2 scout take down. So far I really like it. Great trigger. Short. Well balanced. Enough weight to feel like a real gun but light enough it's still a joy to carry
Will most likely be a plinker and a stepping stone for my daughter's progression of shooting. I have the dies just need to order brass and bullets. Just been to busy to sit down and do it

The 360 is coming in camo and bronze cerokote. Looks good I can't wait till they land up here. I'll likely get the 400 as well unless they jack the prices up more.
3030 coming as well

This rifle killed a ton of critters from 35 yards to distances that some would have me hung for.
RKS gain twist in 6.5WSM, this particular deer was one of my more memorable shots over the years, a very high angle from kneeling at close to 400 yards.:)

Hang him hang him death by the rope shooting games at further than 100yards is a crime, especially with that relic of a rifle!!!!
🤔🤣🤣🤣
Hey I have that same little axe!! Do you actually use it field dressing?

I actually did try it once just to see and yes it did work quite well!
Mostly I use ot for clearing brush and just opening up sternums. Etc.

I love the simplicity of single shots. After hunting for 20 plus years in a muzzleloader only WMU for deer , I am quite comfortable with a single shot when I actually hunt with a rifle. I have a Ruger No. 1 in 7mm magnum but have never hunted with it and like the look of the Steven's 219 in 30-30.
Had a R#1 in 338 WM and during the hunting season the lever would catch on my jacket and eject my round (bummer). I lost more rounds than I shot! Sold that gun. I later bought a Savage 219B in 30/30 (26” barrel). Heavy trigger but nice to carry and fun to shoot.

Nice!
How about a quick rundown on chamberings and sighting setups? (Please)
Savage 219 30-30 I restored. .243 with BalVar 8B, .300Wby with Leupold 4-12AO, 6.5-.284 with Leupold 4.5-14, .220swift with BalVar 24, 2x .22-250 wth Redfield 3200 scopes, .22-250 with BalVar 24, .257Wby with Leupold 4-12, .264win Mag with Redfield Widefield 3-9

A Ruger No.3 in .30-40 that I modified and refinished an original No. 3 stock I found a a gunsmiths that had been taken off a gun for some reason. Some of the nicest wood I’ve seen on a Ruger once it was made to bring out its character. I rounded off and fluted the comb and chalets the forearm profile then applied my top secret oil finish.
