single vs double action

What are the pros and cons of the two in a revolver. Is one "better" than the other or is it a matter of personal preference?
 
Most of the single action revolver is cowboy look gun, you have to #### the hammer by yourself before pull the trigger. the double action revolver can also work as single action and you get more choice than just a single action. But you may notice that most of the single action revolver is very beautiful.

Agree. If you actualy have to use one to defend yourself, the first instinct is to keep squeezing the trigger.

Single action is a good methiod for deliberate shooting.
 
I use a single action revolver when I do some bullseye shooting at the range. It's good for that, and I think it's a very nice gun, but it wouldn't be very practical, as mentionned above...
 
SA revolvers sure look different, but I prefer DA to me they look better...
Although I usually shoot in SA, I know that I don't need to #### the hammer to fire the gun.

plus Double is twise as good as Single :p

I prefer my double action revolvers over my single action ones due too being able too reload them quicker. Swing the cylinder out to the side, dump the empties out, reload with a speed loader and your good to go again.

I also like my s/s Ruger Bisley Vaquero 45 Colt single actions due too their design and strength. The Bisley grip also allows you to handle heavy recoil better.....

If I had too make a choice it would be the double action revolver that I would get/keep.
 
Some single action guns are works of art. My brother has a Colt SAA that is almost too beautiful to shot (the key word being almost :D).

Is your training aimed at improving your B.E. shooting or are you practising defensive types of shooting?
If the former, by all means shoot single action. If the latter, only practise double action. If you ever have to de-#### your revolver b/c you had cocked it single action, ( it wasn't a home invasion at all, but your daughter's boy friend making all that racket) you will realize the dangerous position you are in b/c you chose to use the single action option.

Damn straight...that has to be one of the most beautiful designs imho. The 1911 is my all time fave still.
