Sino-Iraqi Bringback

Not saying it's impossible, but with literally dozens of better choices readily available such as FALs, AKs, G3s, etc I can't fathom why the IRG would be fighting with SKS. Then of all the interesting weapons to choose from ie. HK family, IRG BHPs, MAC10s, Beretta M12s, Milkors, M79s, platinum Tabuks, gold CZ75s, etc that were lying all over the place the guy chooses to smuggle home a SKS? Interesting piece nonetheless.

Because back in the day those guns were brand new and cutting edge stuff. Think 60s and 70s. Not 80s and 90s.

Why did they come back from Nam when there was soooo many other weapons to pick from?

I dunno... perhaps it was the personal connection to the items after removing them from the Iraqi.

I don't understand what you mean. OIF started in 2003. It doesn't make any sense why one of the "elite" units of the Iraqi military would be carrying the worst weapon available in the entire armed forces for anything other than ceremonial duties.

The geographical area existed before 2003. And there were people in that area fighting. The guns were there long before OIF. When fighting gets started, guns come out of hiding.

Look at what is being used in Syria and the Ukraine. Hell, ptrs and ptrd anti tank guns are still being fielded in both campaigns. And Enfields are being used in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Guy smuggles home a semi auto rather than a full auto which even in the US is a no no. Easier time with a non papered semi than a non papered full auto.

The semi auto paperwork is the only thing that makes sense.

SKS's wouldn't need to come out of hiding. Regular Iraqi middle class households had Hungarian, East German, Romanian, Tabuk AKs.

The country was awash in much better, more modern rifles. You can't compare Iraq to Afghanistan in terms of the proliferation of modern weaponry.

In the US there is only two ways to have a non import marked SKS.

#1 bringback

#2 It jumped the border from CA, and last time I looked.. CA pins to 5 and never received 23m /26\ guns

So what are you saying beyond doubting the story? That the story isn't possible? Confusing.

Very little is impossible. I find it highly unlikely that one of the best equipped units in the Iraqi military was running around with a SKS. It's a nice story to go with a bring back but I am doubtful it is true.

Even the OP doubts it and said he bought the rifle, not the story. Is it possible that it was taken off a surrendering Iraqi? Sure. Did anyone say is was documented fact? No.
