Sinsinatti 20 gauge ammo plug

4 shells is "un-plugged"

The plastic cap at the end (underneath the screw cap) is basically a flat disc holding in the spring. On mine, it's within 1/2" or so of taking a 5th 2&3/4 shell. The extra space is taken up by the compressed spring.

You could crack and remove the plastic cap off the end, or push it in enough so you can file off the slight metal lip from the end of the tube that holds it in place to remove it, and then rely on the screw on cap to hold the spring in place (shouldn't cause any problems), and that might give you the extra 1/2" or so you need, but I don't know for sure.

You may be able to turn the plastic washer to vertical and pull out with needle nose plyers , think that is way they put them in:)
