SIR has SKS and 91/30 on sale

even though SIR is 10 minutes away, for a Mosin i'd get a Finnish capture M91 from P & S for the little bit of extra cash. no stupid import stamp, original finish, andform everything you hear about P & S, i'm sure you'd get a good one, plus they have pics on the site of each individual rifle.

Here yah go... everything you will need to know about cleaning and taking the SKS apart...even has manuals, and vids to download: http://www.surplusrifle.com/sks/cleaning/index.asp

Also I don't get this CaRp About not being able to pick out your rifle...what BS is this?!
If I'm standing there to spend money on a Rifle then they had better let me pick out the one I want. What kind of childish customer service are they offering?

After reading this about SIR I'd never shop there.

heee heee, I had the guys firing a 91/30 using heavy ball from the prone at hagisfest last summer, and by your own words I guess your calling Gatehouse a wuss  I'll make sure I pass that on.

As for what to get I would take a 91/30 over the sks anytime.

I'd say it's a bit more comfy, as the butt on the mosin is a little wider and flatter and thus distributes the recoil a little better than the narrow little enfield butt...

Disagree. The Enfield is a far heavier rifle, especially loaded. It soaks up more recoil than the 91/30 does. Additionally the 54R is a hotter round than the .303 is. But again, both recoils are similar.

Now an M44 mosin will really give you a boot if you mistakenly expect No.4 Enfield recoil levels...

Sks is a better rifle for plinking , the ammo is cheaper and it has almost no recoil! I have both an sks and an M-44 , if you get the M-44 , get a good recoil pad too haha ! But honestly , for the low price you should just buy both!

Out of ALL of my rifles, including a Remington 700 .300 WSM, my M44 puts it into your shoulder the hardest. These are NOT pleasant guns to shoot in terms of recoil. That said, I notice it ONLY on the range...in the field with a buck in your sights, recoil diminishes dramatically.

I say get both!! And if you don't believe me about the M44 recoil...get that one to!!

Heavy ball in the M44 is just a c-hair under 16 foot-lbs of recoil, my cousin and I both own m44's and after a day of shooting we both have sore arms, my wife gets bruising when she shoots mine, it still have the wood stock, the ati syntho on my cousins soaks up a lot of the felt recoil with the recoil pad. I have some awesome video and still footage of us firing at night, hurray for meter long muzzle flashes! the videos (60 fps) caught the shock wave 1/60th of a second before the flash, and again a 60th after when it rebounded from the snow!

Personally, I love mosins. I have a cz, but the combo of corrosive ammo and a semi auto system = cleaning time. The only time I can remember feeling anything from the mosin was when I was firing prone and had seated the butt badly against an awkward part of my collar bone. Other than that, I'm getting a second in about 10 days, so I guess that speaks for itself.

P.S. - as far as availability goes, apparently canam has a source of 7.62x54r that's likely to b here in the next year... it's not the stuff that got stopped a while back. Just keeping the rumour mill going.;)

Ìf you want cheap ammo and lots of fun at the range go for the SKS
If you want a crap milsurp buy the mosin nagant
If you want a good milsurp buy a lee enfield or a mauser

However I probably shouldn't talk considering I just bought a M91/30 sniper
I hope I'm not dissapointed.

If this dosen't do it for me then you'll be hearing about it.

My m44 will shoot sub MOA all day. So they ain't all that bad.
