Was looking at the 180gr spitzer Sierra makes for the .303 (.311 dia #2310), anyone have any feedback on these with regards to performance on med/large size game, deer and black bear specifically.

Ranges will typically be out to 200yds but realistically between 50-100yd, will be out of a No.4 LE. It shoots 150-180gr .311 dia bullets well.
 
I found them to be accurate, and very functional on game using Lee Enfields. I noticed they fed better from the magazine compared to Hornadies RN offering in some rifles (eg P-14). For the velocities involved, this style of cup and core bullet is perfect. To boot, the flat base really benefits accuracy in these wartime bore rifles.
 
Thanks guys, appreciate the info. Looks like I’ll have to pick some up, might grab a box of the .312 hornady’s as well. Was impressed with their Interlock’s in a .308 this year, exit hole was excellent.

The P14 was designed for a spitzer bullet and won't typically feed round nose ammo. At least my P14 re-chambered to .303 Epps Imp. won't.
Dayton-Traister addressed the problem by offering the Tru-Feed kit for this issue many years past.
180 gr RN were the most accurate in my rifle so it's a shame. It meant single loading the chamber.
That said I typically use the Sierra 180 gr .311" bullet with good results.
I have no trouble feeding RN bullets out of the No.4 Enfields but prefer the Hornady 150 gr. .312" Sp. This bullet shoots very well and cleanly takes bear and white-tailed deer with one shot.
 
P14 feeding Round Nose - if you get a chance, look at a BSA conversion of the P14 or the M1917 - they did some grinding and re-shaping to the action side rails - looks to be done from the top going down - somewhere I read - and can no longer remember where - that the "funky" shape was to allow round nose to rise up at the correct time to feed correctly. PM to me if you want to see pictures of their modification - I have examples of both here. I am not familiar with that Dayton-Traister kit - will have to try and look that up.
 
I have several BSA P-14's, including a very nice model D sporter, which is my main deer gun. As you state, they have all had the feed rails ground. This must have been done by hand as the profile, and loading capability varies from rifle to rifle. The COAL seems to have a strong effect upon the rifles ability to feed, as well as the rim thickness. As the original bullet spec as stated on the barrel was 215 gr/2.22 inches, they were supposed to feed RN bullets at one time...
 
Shot a couple of white tails out of a mosin accurate, good expansion. Both at 100 yards or so couple of steps and they drop......
