I have just updated my files on the problem with M1 Ball ammo and the M1 Garand Rifle. These files should be study to show how the problem was worked out by Ordnance. Some of these files have been posted before, however many of the new guys should check them out. Let me know what you think of these files.
Post a reply I would like to hear what you guys think about these files.

The site they have been added to is at:

"...the problem with M1 Ball ammo and the M1 Garand Rifle..." What problem? That's the ammo the rifle was designed to use. The only problem with M1 ball was that it had too much range for National Guard ranges.

sunray,

M2 Ball is the one that was developed for the M1 Garand. M1 Ball had a fouling problem as well as a extracting problem on the M1 Garand so they developed the M2 Ball and used that as the standard ammunition for the M1903 rifles and the M1 Garand during the war which didn't give the problems to the M1. :)

Really take a look again at the files. They are worth a good read like always. :)

And as for the AK-47 with Sand etc being so reliable, the M1 did all that as well if you read Clancy's files on the testing of the M2 Ball. Except, the M1 is a Battle Rifle shooting a proper cartridge not Humm what the AK is. ;) :runaway:
