Sitka gear

Thanks for all the replys. When it comes to staying out longer while hunting price isnt a concern. I have no complaints with my current gear. I can be out from sunrise to sunset comfortably. What id like is a higher quality set up for wet spring mornings or early season fall. When its still to warm to wear my gortex. I have lighter gear but its only water resistent. Not water proof. However it dries quickly. Its never slowed me down or kept me from going out. I would like a warm thin setup that breathes well for late season duck hunting. I hunt from a kayak now mostly so paddling with all gear on then sitting for hours in the wind rain or snow inched off the water needs good gear. My gortex keeps me warm but its a little thick as i wear a life jacket over it. It doesnt restrict my movements but it does sometimes interfere with shouldering my gun quickly
Ive got time to look at various brands and styles as it wont be long till freeze up as its 22 degrees f this morning. Ive got my kayak in the truck and will be headed out shortly

One of my favourite pieces from Sitka is the Traverse Cold Weather Hoodie, I probably use it the most while hunting. I wear it under my rain shell on cooler wet days and when the rain stops shell goes in my pack. The traverse has gorestopper so even if the breeze is a little damp and cool it’s not chilling your core, it is not as packable as most midlayers but out of all my “down” hoodies the travers wins for the simple fact that when you shed a shell or just wear it out you don’t worry about it ripping on anything you brush up against.

Anyone use sitka gear? Looking for honest user experiences. I have several varieties of dry gear and gortex and have no issues with any of my current gear but i have to admit ive been tempted to get into the sitka lines. Ive held off on the belief i dont need to change but the urge to expand is getting the better of me

I'm like you brybenn, have different makes/varieties of Gore-tex and it has been great, but I've been tempted by the Sitka gear for late season waterfowling. I want light weight and slim, not heavy and bulky when I have to layer up. I love to hunt in the bone chilling cold, but hate all the bulky layers. When I called Sitka for some info they suggested buying four different pieces which adds up very quickly, but again if it keeps me warm and comfortable so I can hunt longer then ok! Great to read some actual feedback.

Do you guys know of any retailer that would have a decent choices of option for Sitka here in Canada ? I ordered directly from Sitka wich is in the US and for about 2100 USD i had near 3500 CAD in change fees , duty , taxes and customs fees , wich is completely crazy ( i tought that it was a crazy amount before the total fees but in the end it wasnt a logic amount of money ), i had to cancel my order. I searched for a Sitka retailer in Can but only found poor choice and availability. Even Sitka customer service in the US could not help me find an official retailer that had a good inventory. I can't believe that Sitka would not offer the same service for Canadian customer that let say First Lite is offering ( wich you can shop in CAD directly on their website ).

Thanks for any help.

Cabelas and the gun dealer. However after checking it out in person at cabelas i didnt buy any. The price just didnt seem to match the quality and the patterns dont blend in where i hunt

I’ve been very tempted as well and almost pulled the trigger.. From everything that I’ve read, Sitka has a decent warranty, not with kuiu and first lite, I’m hard on my stuff and the last thing I wanna do is spend the money on quality stuff and to be in the field, trying “Only wanting to stay on the trails” b/c I don’t wanna rip my clothes soo i consider how good the warranty is. I’ve have been looking into “badlands” cheaper and there warranty apparently is “tell us how it broke and what you were doing So we can make are product better” and here is new gear.. if anyone has used badlands fill me in...

I have a set of fanatic jacket and bibs for stand hunting. It’s a super warm set, but had to send the bibs back for warranty work after one season. At least the bibs were replaced without issue. Hoping my current bibs last a little longer. I ended up buying some kuiu kutana pants and soft shell for layering and more active hunting which I’m very happy with so far. I had a stratus jacket that I bought and sold because it was a little small, if it fit I think it would have been a great jacket, but would never buy at full price.

Comparing Sitka with FL or Kuiu.... how about comparing it with the traditional silk and wool garments?
I get the weight savings and the freedom of movement given by both design and the mentioned weight... but for MOST hunters that do not backpack 5-7 days in the boonies... ?

I was looking at Sitka gear, even bought a couple pieces on sale at Cabelas. I then called First Lite, the guy there promised to pay return shipping if the items didn't fit, since it wa sa bit less expensive than Sitka I gave it a try, that was two years ago and now all my hunting seasons are covered by FirstLite. Awesome stuff, decent pricing and great customer service!

Sitka has treated me too notch for a lot of years. Iv had pieces fail due to my own fault, always replaced no questions asked.

Great North precision has a sale on right now I believe.

I would agree, Sitka is good to deal with for warranty. I bought a set of gators at Cabela's, when I got them hoe one snap was already broken, they sent me a new pair for free, and said I could keep the original pair.

Just had a warranty replacement on a set of Boreal pants 3 years old split alongside the zipper. That is service and have several other pieces have got on camofire (JACKET FOR $150) .

The only positive thing I can say about Sitka is that the Optifade Marsh is a great camouflage pattern but the clothing itself is way overpriced for the lack of quality. I did not care for any of it after owning a variety of tops and bottoms from both the Marsh and Open Country. Had all the pieces and found them to be poorly made, fabric and seams did not hold up, and the insulating gear was not great for keeping warm on the mountain. I got rid of all of it and went back to my my Arcteryx mountain gear.

You need to keep up with washing the Sitka goretex in the waterproofing detergent or you will be soaked, I do use my gear a lot though fishing ,hunting, and atv scouting trips. I use a mix of other brand merino wool base layers (Ice Breaker) to make up my system.
