Sitting fox Jager kit

Hi all
well after waiting for awhile my Jager rifle kit has arrived.
62 cal round bottom rifled barel, davis large germanic lock
Premium walnut for the stock, she is going to muck into a real fine rifle.
A fun project to keep me buisy for a few weeks or months.

Looking Good...I see you got the stock inlayed for the lock included...sights already installed...
I am thinking of getting a kit from Sitting Fox...I would go for the lock inlay work done as well.
I imagine you will use a flash hole insert?...this is where I had a little snag on my last project...

Im going to drill my touchhole like my muskets at first, then depending on how she performs I -MAY- use one of those liners, as far as I know most origional rifles did NOT have touchhole liners.

Its 62 cal so the barell wall is not all that thick, we shall see.

most of the higher quality guns had touch hole liners, i have had two muzzleloaders that were coned holes they never worked worth nothing, they now have white lightning liners ,, wade

I'm back from my trip..It was really a experience!!

I have since decided that I am going to install a liner as the barrel is quite thicker then my smooties..

Its going to be some time before Im at that stage though!!

origin of touch hole liner...?

As for origin of touch hole liner...I recall reading they were used in the 1750s by the military...when the original hole was enlarge over time due to the use of the pick, the armourer would install such thing as touch hole liner to extend the life of the musket...
I could not locate the source of this info...anyone can help...I, too taught liners were a modern invention..

Notice how far the front sight is. This is 65 cal rifle with a very light barrel the whole gun only around 7 pounds.

Wow...beautiful flintlock. Do you guys actually use these guns for hunting?? I noticed that this gun is also a single trigger. My A&H flinter has the double trigger, just wondering which is historically correct? And the leather that holds the flint, is lead sheet better (forget where I read that)? Sorry for the hijack just wondering about these flinters. I must admit though that I like shooting my A&H as much as my Encore.

That is the most beautiful flintlock I have EVER seen!
What a beauty!!
Im still inletting the breach on mine "measure twice cut onece" but I will definately be asking for more pictures in a few weeks when I get further on.

I think I am going to be using a different butt plate and trigger guard aswell, to represent a arm more akin to your wonderous Jager,

One good thing is -it seems as though the pattern of the davis large germanic lock im using is a very close copy of the origional lock on your rifle "albeit much more plain"

Maybe we can just trade "kidding"

Its good to see that rifle is in the care of someone who takes care of her!!

breech

Well after work this morning my wife took the son to her mothers leaving me to do some more work on my Jager.

I worked on the breech inletting, and am pleased with the progress so far, I even started a basic inletting of the tennon slots.

Theres tons more fun to go, its just satisfying to see my jager evolve, Its like falling back in time where workmanship and quality really meant something..

Anyhow heres a couple pictures.
