Size DOESN'T Matter (at least for Mausers)

Rooting through the milsurps looking for something to shoot, thought you might find this one interesting.

I am a sucker for contract Mausers. This is a 7mm M1924 Mexican carbine built by FN. They came fitted with a 15 inch barrel (For comparison I included a K98K - DOT 43 in the pic). Note the lack of a bayonet bar and the "carbine clip" on the butt. I have a number of South/Central American carbines with this clip, apparently designed for horse mounted carry. I have been unable to find a description/pic of it in use, if you see one please post.

This particular carbine is unusual for a Mauser from down South in that it is still complete with sight hood and cleaning rod, it is matching and the bore is surprisingly good, carried a lot but not shot much I suspect.

It handles well and the 7mm Mauser suits it's size perfectly. No offence to the Enfield crowd, but this little carbine makes the No 5 Jungle Carbine feel heavy, bloated and awkward. :nest:

Cheers

Nice carbine. I have read that a lot of these were used to build sporters much like the Czech G33/40's.

No, you're thinking of the M1936 or M1910 mexican amusers since they are a small-ring 98.

The M1924 uses a standard large-ring K98 action built by FN - they were;t sportered at any greater rate than the other large-ring 98's. Probably less since only a few were imported.

Very nice - does it still have a strong Mexican crest? I have a Mexican DWM 1902 carbine, but the crest is almost obliterated by refinishing.

Well that's cute, little baby mauser.. :p Just kidding, I'm sure it can pack quite a punch. Still though, it kind of reminds me of those custom made muskets for children back in the 1700s.

Crest still quite presentable. The 1924 contract receivers were finished in the white and there are no signs of refinishing.
