Are these quality O/U guns ? I have heard different things from 2 people I know at the skeet club. I am quite new to sporting clays but have a chance to buy one for $600 not sure if it is a good deal or not. I want it for sporting clay and duck hunting and it has blued bbls 28" with fixed mod and im chokes.
Any opinions would be appreciated
thanks

SKB made lots of guns under other names too, including Ithaca and Weatherby, so as long as it isn't too beat up, I'd say it's a decent gun.

Great gun if you get it for that price you will be laughting, because you just stole it. If shooting steel is you game, find a gunsmith that would bore out to I/C or more. Personaly I would shoot Bismuth, and keep the gun in its original condition. Good-Luck

These are good durable guns. The SKB uses a cross locking system similar to that used in a lot of high grade guns like the Beretta DT10 and SO series. Depending on the condition of the gun the price sounds pretty good but as mentioned already steel in full chokes isn't a good idea.

Skb

I am still shooting a Ithaca / SKB which I bought new when they were being mfg. in Dunville Ontario.
Lots and lots of rounds through and still tight.
Only consideration is that every 10yrs or so you will need to replace the hammer springs, and get the trigger rebuilt. I have done it twice.
NO STEEL please... don't trash a good piece.
Great value in shotguns even now. Unfortunately, it is tuff to get a new SKB into the Peoples Republic of Canada due to the Liberal gun laws.
Buy it and shoot the heck out of it.
Thegunnut

Claybuster and Thegunnut are right. There was an Ithica at the Pairs auction
that sold for a lot more than that. It looked like it was stored in a barrel of
salt water and dragged behind a tuck for several miles. A friend at my club has a SKB O/U three barrel set. Very nice!

I would say they are as good a gun as the citori, used to have a SKB 600 disguised / brand marked as BSA. Very solid receivers with the crossbolt lockup, single selective trigger (didn't like the selector on the trigger tho) auto ejectors. I'd get another if I found one for that price. Base model is /was the 500, then 600(some with silver nitrided receivers) and 700 etc.

The SKB O/U shotguns are excellent. I would quickly buy any that was being sold for $600. Around here I would expect to pay $800 to $1000 for a decent one.

I have a 25-30 year old SKB 500 in 20 gauge that I bought a number of years ago. I consider it the best $ I ever spent on a shotgun. I would guess that I am the fifth owner. One of the previous owners used it heavily for skeet and upland. I figure I shot eight to ten thousand shells thru it myself (mostly at skeet). Last fall a hammer spring finally broke. No big deal on such a high mileage gun. They have been known to occasionally break the lower barrel firing pin, however parts breakage is not a common thing with these guns.

If I were you I would email SKB USA and ask them about the suitability of that particular gun for use with steel shot. If you can give them the serial # it might help.

The SKB O/U guns have a nice shallow receiver profile; field models are fairly light and are well balanced for fast shooting. As has been mentioned these have also been sold as Ithaca and Weatherby branded items, usually for more $ because of the “brand” name.

I don't think anyone currently imports these into Canada, which is a real shame. Be nice to see someone selling the current SKB line-up

Great gun, my son shoots skeet with it, has interchangeable chokes and it works great, never a problem, nice and tight, great finish. His gun fits and shoots as good as my Browning Ultra XS for me and his was a lot cheaper. His gun was a year old (new in box) and we paid $ 900.00 three years ago.
