SKB XL900 Thought I would share

Picked up another old Ithaca SKB XL900 and started to clean it up. On removing the barrel I checked it against my other 900 for comparison of gas seals etc. and noticed the stamps. Both stocks have a chunk missing on the left side right behind the receiver. The barrel stamps however are completely different.

Yes they were made in Japan and imported by Ithaca. One was obviously imported through Ithaca Canada when they still had a Canadian division.

Would like to find a source for original parts....wood mainly. Was once given the number of the gentleman in Dunnville who bought up the old stock years ago. Not likely to find him now, even if he's still around.

Yeah, believe me I get it. Barrel is nice on the latest one. Under the two rolls of electrical tape and black spray paint and sawdust and glue filler I found a beautiful zebrastriped walnut stock. The chunk that is missing goes right through the fleur de lis and checkering though. We'll see how well I can patch this one. Can't wait to start layering the tung oil! Think I'll strip and re-powdercoat the receiver too.

My father had an Ithaca SKB XL900 20 ga. I loved that gun. Unfortunately, I sold it after he passed away. I do enjoy seeing them.

Yes, they seem to be well made light guns.

If you strip that wood, you'll likely be left with a plain wood stock. The woodgrain on those Ithaca's was apparently painted on by Japanese artisans before the stock was finished.
